alright, after blowing the trans outta my truck i think its time for more guages. if i would have had a few more guages, i woulda saved myself over 3 or 4 grand. where can i install a temp guage in my rearend and in my trans? yall might not think its necessary, but after replacing my rear end AND my transmission, i think it is. plus, they look cool.

You might look at Westach Gauge. Geno's Garage sells them. Westach makes a dual-needle universal temp gauge. Hook it up one side for the tranny and the other side for you diff maybe?

How about this??....a digital guage - you can get a guage and two senders. Use a switch to toggle back and forth between the tranny and the diff. Youll find this will probably be your best and cheapest option:

Blackdiesel,

I have my tranny temp gauge mounted down on the passenger side of the shifter console. I like it alot there. All it takes is a quick glance to check. I don't see why you cant mount 2 gauges there. When you have 3 people in the front or rolling old school with a female you just have to remind them that it's there and to keep their feet away from it.

Have had it there 3 years an no issues.

Thats why I recommended the digital guage with 2 senders - 2 functions to the guage and then you only need 5 mounting spots instead of 6.

Tranny temp guage goes in the hot line to the cooler and diff temp goes in an aftermarket (Mag Hitech) diff cover.

id love to know what you were doing to take out a dana 80 rear and nv5600 tranny...did you drain the fluids and drive cross country?????

however it was you killed your tranny, it couldnt have been heat. i have a temp gauge on my 6pd and in 100 degree summer heat, running 6th gear on the highway at 75-80 mph, my tranny temps will MAX out at 150*

but to answer your question, invest in some FAST coolers for your tranny, they bolt right up, and have a place to screw in a temp sending unit right on the bottom of the cooler. and for your rear, if you did kill it with heat while towing etc...then invest in a mag hi-tech rear diff cover with the added oil capacity and a tap for a sensor built in. i mean it would be wise for you if you have already killed a tranny and a rear to take these steps and get some added cooling/lubricating capacity in these parts and the taps for sensors are built right in

welllllll............... the shifter wansnt tightened down on top of the trans when i replaced the clutch, thus lettting all the fluid get out of it. so yes, i did drain the fluid and run across country. but if i would have had a trans temp, it would have read really really hot i would imagne and then i would have put fluid in it and this would have saved me round 2 grand. as for the rear end, it was bent on the drivers side, so the axel shaft wouldnt seal to the axel tube. so i had to replace the whole friggen thing.
