When To Change To Synthetic???
On a rebuilt engine, how many kilometers/miles do I run standard 15/40w oil before I change to synthetic on a 2001 24v H.O? I've never ran synthetic oil before and I was wondering if I should not bother and just always run standard oil???

I'd wait for at least 10k miles and then put the synthetic in. From what I've read and been told is that the synthetic oil is to slippery and won't allow the rings and bearings and what not to seat in properly.

I dunno. I've never seen enough results to justify the cost. Yes you can extend the oil drain intervals and yes it helps on engine wear but why in the world am I gonna pay $120-150 for an oil change for stuff that I know isn't gonna add power or what not and when I know my engine is going to last just as long on the cheap dino stuff.

Rings will probably seat w/i 1,000 miles, but I would go through the first oil change interval... for convenience and economy!

Yeah. I know on the vette it costs about $60 for mobil one and an oil filter and it only takes 4-5 qts. I figure ours being twice as much oil should cost twice as much. One way or another, it ain't worth it to me.

The only way I can see running synthetic as economical is if you go for extended change intervals use a bypass filter with oil analysis and change filters at the regularly recommended intervals.
Oh, oh the price just went way up.
Here's a good article about making the choice of which oil to run:
