Wheel Balancing

All,
Is anyone using Centramatic's on their vehicle? The question I have is my Dana 80's with disc brakes. Will the Centramatic's clear the calipers without have to take a side grinder to them? I have heard of this, but just rumor, never from anyone personnally involved.
Thanks

Skip the Centramatic's and use balance beads inside the tire. I get them here
http://innovativebalancing.com/
I've been using beads for over four years on every vehicle I own and the over 25 I maintain. The old lead weight spin balance system is a dinosaur whose time is up.

Centramatics work on the exact same principal except the beads are in a thin oil and cost many times more. Some folks think the Centramatic advantage is they can move them to a new rig but how often does it happen that the new rig will have the same lug pattern?

Ditto on the IB beads. Worked flawlessly on both my car and my truck.

Can't recommend them enough!

On my new alloy rims they mounted a bunch of weights on the outside of the rim. I was told that they could mount them on the inside of the rim. I that correct? I started to order these beads and figured it was over 40 bucks . I want my truck to look nice but 40 bucks for tire weights. I don't think so.
Thanks! Usta

$40 is nothing when you consider most all tire manufacturers recommend you have your tires rebalanced every 25k miles if you want to get the rated number of miles out of the them. I don't know of any tire shop that charges less than $10 per tire for spin balance. Some shops give a free balance when you buy the tires, many do not, so you're stuck with the same price as for beads. Plus with beads your tires are balanced all the time.

The weights can be on the inside, most times they are if it only takes one or two weights. If it takes a lot of weights they might put them on both sides. Before I gave up on lead weights I used to get the kind that stick on the center of the rim on the inside, not the pound on type.

I am about to install new tires on my truck and would like to hear more opinions on the balancing beads. I like the idea of using the beads since I am more than capable of changing out the tires myself, so I would not need to pay someone to balance them. I tried Magnum (kind of like balancing beads) in the tires I have now and it did not help at all, but I think this is because the tires are shot.

So, with balancing beads, do the tires always feel like they are balanced? When you slow down do they come out of balance?

I have 6oz of counterbalance in mine and there balanced even at a slow speed like the idea that they will stay balanced when rim has mud in it will see if this is true when the snow melts. I think this is the way to go with larger tires.

Bartman,

Give them a call and I would guess they could inform you of any fitment problems.

I like the Centramatics bette than the balance beads. If you have a flat, you do not have to refill the tire. Although, I don't think I will have many flats with my sixteen plys. I know infidel is real big on the beads, and I respect his opinion, but I just prefer the idea behind the centramatics regardless of any differences in cost.

Ok thanks, I thought that they had some that were 32 inch. I would hate to go to a larger diameter with my gearing. Maybe have to go to 225's.
