whats the best filter?

Hey Texan, where did you get that prefilter to go over your filter? I got my BHAF today and I have my 4" piece of pipe at home. So now I want to get one of them socks/prefilters, prefer red and then I have to build my heat shield....then....first mod complete.

If you have a lot of space underhood, go to a local big truck shop and see if you can't find a big paper filter. Something like a Farr Ecolite.
Donaldson is also revamping a lot of their product line using their AWESOME nanofiber technology. Check out the Donaldson "endurance" filters.
My favorite is the Donaldson PowerCore filters, so see if you can't cross-reference a PowerCore app from a big rig and make it fit.
That's what I tried to do early last year, but the Powercore line was limited, and I had very little luck.

I actually contacted Donaldson last week about a powercore that could be used on the RAM. I gave the dimensions and flow requirements and the result was really disappointing.
The best info I got from the sales person (pretty crappy actually -tried to get a technical person) was on the d09 - a wimpy 255 cfm at 6" H2O.
One big reason why I hate the stock air box is because it leaks... this might be the result of the WIX/NAPA filters I've used.
I decided to try out a EAA106 Amsoil filter... I'll let you know what I find out. I'll have oil analysis to backup the efficiency...
I'm also planning on "wrecking" the box if the new eaa filter seals really well. I'll do the old hole saw trick to try to get more air flow. Luckily my performance modifications are minimal and I may get away with just a panel filter.
Its really too bad though... I don't know why Donaldson does not jump all over the Dodge Ram market.

I bought the wix 42790, if I ever get over near the Cat house again I might pick up one of those...since I know everyone out there I could get a deal on the filter. I was wanting to get the outerwear...the blue thing around the pic on page one. I just don't know where to get one?? Checked the performance sites but they are showing air kits

Now I want the fiber Fleetgaurd. Where did you get it?

i jest orderd the afe stage 1 race version with the 6" inlet it should be here later on this week and it should out flow the BHAF and the regular pro guard and it will be quieter than the scotty with the hole cut i hated it it sounded like i had a shop vac in my glove box. if i wanted to listen to that i would of hooked up a leaf blower to it

Before you go and buy a super-expensive Marine BHAF, consider the whole picture.
Yes, it's a different material that's water resistant because of the operating environment it's designed for.
Yes, it flows quite a bit more than a regular BHAF.
BUT!! The reason it flows more is because it's not a very efficient filter (efficiency being dust filtering ability). The marine environment has VERY little dust. Therefore, a boat filter doesn't need to filter dust nearly as well and can flow a lot more air.
If you're willing to give up such a degree of filtration ability, you might as well just consider an oiled gauze filter like an AFE or (gasp!) K&N.
There's no free lunch with the BHAFs. You can either get good flow or good filtration, but not both.
I'd take the filtration, but it's your truck to do as you please.
