If you want big power get a Silver 62. If you want fast spool and just enough air for your current smoky injector size, get a sps 62. If you want room to grow, and can afford a little lag, get at sps 64/14 or for a little quicker spool, get a 71 series 64/14. If you are going to put in massive injectors, fire ringed head, and so forth, get an Aurora 5K. If you got deep pockets, put in a set of twins. If you are really tight, put in a bottled turbo... 40 shot nitrous.

I think a 62 or 64 will suit you just fine. It just depends on what kind of spool up you want.

I have tried 62/12, 62/14, 64/12, 64/14 & highly recommend the Super Stock 62 from HT....a league of its own! I tow daily....up to 15k & no heat issues. I have 50psi boost on tap when I need it & It spools like a rocket. It builds boost from 10-50psi like lightning fast....unbelievable turbo. You don't wanna try towing with laggy turbos with 64 compressor wheels.....the SS62 cooled me down 300* below the 64. I hated the 64 for towing & just wanted to

Care to do a comparision of the group since you've tried them all? What size are those dragon flows (in hp)? I've heard that a super 62 spools marginally better than a 64/14 with slightly less cooling with 85 hp injectors - its interesting you saw such a big difference.

Hey not to hi-jack this thread, but I just put a 62/12 on my truck and was wondering about turning it up a little. It's putting out 38 psi now (guess that's what they come set at from HT) and I didn't know how much that it would take.

Would you consider 50 psi the upper limit of this turbo?

And by the way...I do love this combo in my truck towing or just running around town. You might also consider the new 62/13 kind of the best of both worlds, so to speak...

It spools just a little slower than stock. I was really impressed how it spooled. My EGT's get sorta warm but thats because I have 200+hp injectors. If you have a Smarty, you'll really love it. I just put the truck on the dyno and that turbo is supporting 566hp. My buddy has a 62/14 and it spools maybe a little faster but it doesn't support as much power. I wouldn't trade my 64/14 at all. The only way I would have a different one is if I had twins and I would put the 62/12 on the top. But I think the 64/14 is a good all around turbo.

With your combo a PS62/14 would be a great turbo for you. With a TST COMP, Smarty, 155hp BD injectors I could only hit 1500* by 90mph at WOT with everything turned up. With the TST on 1 and the smarty on 3 I could only hit 1300*.

All turbos are a compromise..... The trick is to match the turbo to the customer/job. As mentioned spoolup, egt control, HP, and towing are some of the things to consider. Everyone has different needs and desires so picking the right turbo can be challenging.

I would recommend speaking with a vendor for the brands you are interested in and getting their input. Then ask questions based on their information. What works well for one person in Houston could be horrible choice for someone in Denver, even if both are after the same results.

Ht sets the wastegates at 45psi +/- a few. You may not have enough fuel to see the full potential of the turbo. These turbos love fuel.

The 64 compressors are not for the towing croud....very laggy with a load & surging is commonplace. I had the dragon flow 150hp injectors & couldn't get the turbo lit before 1700 rpm. I saw 1600* many times while towing heavy from a stop going up hill & only doing 25mph. I just couldn't get the turbo to light before egts were through the roof & it is hard for the turbo to catch up when you are already hot & more pedal just makes more heat. I switched to the SS62 & spoolup is at 1300rpm & I now have instant boost at any rpm to get a load moving. I see 45psi boost at 2000rpm where the 64 would be at 10-15 psi. I am now taking that same hill at 65-70mph & not even looking at my egt gauge, because I don't see over 1200*. I recently switched from Dragon flow 10 holes [200hp] to the 4 flows [150hp] & added a smarty to make up for the power loss. By far my best decision yet!

Post was getting long! I started with the 64/14....then to get better spoolup....switched to a 12 housing [64/12]....nightmare temps with the small housing. Sent it back & got a 62/12 for fast spool. The 62/12 was awesome....spooled super fast, but I would hit 1400* quick towing heavy [150hp sticks understandable]. It was still very manageable, but I wanted more. I switched the housing to a 62/14....temps dropped to 1350* towing & wot saw 1600*. I called Paul @ HT & asked if he had a Super 62.....he said that he had a new turbo called the Super Stock 62, but it wasn't in production at the time.....I got him to let me be his guinea pig. Best turbo made by HT hands down! Killer wheel on the exhaust side sure is killer.
