What should I typically see after edge comp install?

I can hear the timing for the lower power levels and can see the egts raise really fast for the 4 and 5 power levels. Never have seen and smoke even when I adjust the responsiveness/smoke level. Could this be cause by a somewhat faulty ground? I do feel the additional power but am not sure if i'm getting all that I could be. Is the no smoke an indication that it's not fueling as much as it should?

I know there are tons of posts on the edge comp...I read a lot. Just want some reactions as to what others are on average getting out of there comp.

Thanks!

High EGTs,
More kick in the "seat of the pants" meter,
a faster moving fuel gauge,
smoke at low boost high load conditions,
the overwhelming urge to "spank" that Ricer/Thumper Skate in the other lane,
......Oh and a smile a mile wide.

Check your connections.
How did you make the connection at the pump?
Are you POSITIVE you're connected to the right pump wire?

I'm pretty sure it's the right pump wire. (The one that is slightly higher than the other right?) I used the supplied wire tap fitting that goes directly onto the wire. Maybe I'll just get the VP cover tap I've seen around to know for sure. The egts definetly raise a lot faster when on level 5. I doubt that's just due to the timing....or could it be? I double checked the connections but I should probably check to make sure the map sensor isn't dirty.

I know that with my comp if you unplug the map sensor it boosts way faster and smokes twice as much and yes the egts get hotter. Are you not seeing any smoke at all?? not even at low rpms?

if your tranny isn't built to hold the power without slipping much it wont smoke as much as it normally would or have as much power. i put it on my stock tranny and it did the same as you describe. lock out od and let it lock up then ease off so that your boost drops to almost 0 yet you maintain lockup in 3rd gear, then rapidly but easily (so that it stays locked rather than unlocking and reving up) roll into the throttle and you should see a dark haze at least.

I know i was slightly dissapointed with the comp at first because of that too but unplug the map sensor from the block if you really want to see some CLOUDS of smoke. Hope this helps

Its not that I WANT to see smoke, I just want to know if the fueling is working. I figure smoke is a clear indicator of that. I see nothing even when I lug the engine. That would mean low boost fueling right? I'm going to unplug the map sensor and see what happens. I'll let ya know.

well i dont have a full pressure gauge but it has never given me any problems even wit the 110hp sticks but i now have an auxillary BD lift pump you can buy it as a kit but I have a friend wit the same setup as me and he has a fuel pressure gauge and he has never gotten his truck below 14psi. Unplugging the map senser should show a huge difference in throttle response as well as the smoke.

You should feel more power on every level. If you tapped the wrong wire, you would get max power on level one, about 65 HP. Then the higher levels would be more responsive but still have a max increase of the the same 65 HP.

Now if you properly tapped the fuel pump wire, you should get more power and responsiveness/aggressiveness on every higher level reaching a peak of 120 HP on level 5. Reread the the sublevel instructions and be sure that you are adjusting Power Level 5 to Sub level 5 as well. I believe that you must push right arrow till all 5 lights are lit up, then push and hold power button till all the lights flash, then use the arrow to go up to five lights, then push the power button again. This is from memory so be sure to reread instructions on adjusting low boost sublevels.

FYI, If your truck is a HO, you will not get as much of a power increase, maybe only 90-100 HP. And if you have a stock tranny, it won't feel like a huge hit due to the fact that your tranny is a slippery slush box is stock form.

Yeah, done all that......just don't know why mine doesn't smoke and other people with similar setups as mine do. I'm definetly getting the fueling just not sure if i'm getting enough. I'll mess around with the ground and map sensor. If I figure anything out i'll let y'all know. Thanks for the replys!

mine didnt smoke that much either and it worried me a lot. i asked around some guys told me that they wont smoke a whole lot if your truck is stock. unplug the MAP and see if it smokes a whole lot. if u get a good black cloud when u rev it up, i would guess that ur wire is tapped right. mine also dont smoke much when its cool outside, which it jus got cool around here, not sure about where u are at.hope this helps

Was accelerating in my 2002 HO 6 speed, hit button in 5'th gear, Edge comp (have rv275 injectors ) was at level 4, felt like an afterburner kicked in, got my stock clutch slipping.
