What plate to buy?

I'm begining to consider the power potential of my "new" 97. Need some advice on a mild upgrade. I am considering a fuel plate, injectors, GSK. Basically all of the stuff I've been reading about here. I contacted Piers and Mark suggested a 3Kgsk, 370 injectors, #10 plate. "Set the plate a little back from stock to avoid slipping the clutch and watch your Egt's" Now, I don't REALLY need any more power, the truck is just my daily driver, and I rarely tow anything heavy. I want more power, just because, in the 1600-2000 rpm range. I don't like to rev the engine high, for whatever reason?? With this in mind, will a Gsk benefit me at all? I've also heard that the gsk is more for an auto tranny. I want to keep my stock clutch around for at least a year before replacement. I plan to add a BHAF. I have gauges, even though the pyro is post turbo. The truck came with a Banks exhaust, judging by the muffler. Any advice on what parts to select would be appreciated. What am I looking at for installation/adjustment tools and techniques? Thanks.

#10 with a stock clutch is not the best idea!, for a mild upgrade you might consider a #11 and no injectors, but I would highly recommend the GSK - with the wide ratio trans. it's nice to run the rpms up in 3rd & 4th before grabbing the next gear if you're going up a hill or hauling a heavy load so when you shift you are in the power range instead of dropping down to 1000-1200 rpm. 370's will smoke like crazy and you would need a new clutch, if you really want injectors there are some that give you the same or close power with less smoke. I think the links on this page can direct you to info on tools & procedures or maybe somebody else will chime in.

You can try the stuff in my sig,its about the max for a stock clutch. If it slips just slide the plate back.I think the 10 is the way to go.The Gsk should be in all trucks, along with a little more timing,It makes the powerband alot wider,so it runs up through the gears more like a gas with tons o torque,it makes it rev quicker to.I still get 20mpg to

You can add all of it with basic hand tools besides the timing.have it done somehwere I think its around 100-150 dollars. It would be best to plug off that post turbo and drill you a new hole pre turbo.

i started of with a #11 plate only, was like wow this things prety quick, then swaped out for a #10 and was like , then came the 3GSK and was like dang !,i have 35,000 miles on stock clutch with #10 plate and GSK,i can make the clutch slip when loaded but just regulate with the right foot and everything is good. my suggestion would be the GSK and #10 and enjoy..

the #10 and the 3000 rpm kit is a sweat set up, and i would highly recommend it. you can adjust your power by plate position. the #10 just has a nice smooth ramp up in power. anf the 3k kit is just great.

A #10 plate in a 98 12v with a stock clutch slide back from stock about 30k will work great. I did the 3k GSK,PDR HX35/14,4" MBRP exhaust,Scotty II, and yes the #10 plate. This combination in that truck works are wonderful.
The good part about this plate is that once you have replaced the clutch down the road you can move the plate forward to stock and even further forward. You can tune the plate to match your truck..
It will be everytime you drive it...

Let's see if I have this straight. No injectors and just a plate and GSK, with the plate moved back to save the stock clutch. Set the timing to ??? In time add a better clutch. Then injectors and air movement(turbo). Sounds like I will be able to do the installation, I just need some tools.

You got the recipe! Magic number that most people do is 15.5-16. If you are just doing the plate and GSK there is not many tools involved but the timing set is around the $200 mark. I have all the tools and also a new lock washer for the pump nut and also new seals for the delivery valve. Now all I need is the time to set the timing.
