What Other Overhead Consoles Will Fit Our Trucks?
I'm looking to take the overhead console from another vehicle and put it in my truck. I'm wanting one that is longer and has more area for installation of switches, an air horn lanyard, a few placards, some map lights, and maybe even a couple air vents. What other consoles do y'all think would fit? I know we had a Suburban several years ago that had a nice long overhead console. Surely the roof countour of our trucks isn't THAT different from other trucks and SUVs. Any suggestions and/or websites to go to look?

overhead console
I put a overhead console from a 89 suburban in my 92 club cab, it fits pretty good I had to do some trim work to the topside of the console to get it to fit flush against the roof I cant get pics or i would show you but it fits really good, I had to hold it up mark the holes w soapstone on the headliner and drill very carefully so not to go thru the top and put sheet metal screws w/ the ends ground flat to protect the top roof panel and ran the wires up the back post to where the cargo light is and then on to where the old dome light was which will be under the console also put an extra fuse block down under the jump seat and ran extra wires to power my cb which i mounted on the console all the way to the front and ran the coax back into the console and back with the wires to the rear floor and my radar det. is also powerd from the console i put an aftermarket cig plug inside the front compartment and ran the wires out the front with the coax. It probably sounds like a big mess but it looks really clean all the wires are hidden and none running up the window post or the rear window. the color of the console is dark grey and matches my interior to a tee the gap between the headliner and console is really small maybe 1/16" and not even noticable w/ my dark headliner I love it, lots more light and a good place for a cb radio or whatever and looks stock people who see it dont even realize it's not factory It was'nt an easy job but it was worth it you can also try if you want to take your headliner out to epoxy some small teflon nuts to the roof and use bolts to hold it up Ill try to get some pics on soon so you can see hope this long winded post helps. Sounds a lot like what I'm going to be trying to do! I bought this overhead console off Ebay last night:
I'd really like to avoid having to drill anything. I was hoping I could find some other way to attach it. Are there two layers of metal up there? Maybe a lower level of metal to mount things to (such as the headliner, and maybe this console) and then the top layer, which would be the roof? Man, I'd be so afraid of drilling into the roof. What kind of gap is there between the two layers? Also, could you expand on your Teflon nut idea?
Pictures would be great as well.
