What oil to use in new transmission

It's just about time to change transmission oil, but I'm not sure what oil to use in an aftermarket trans. After spending countless hours with the search function I still came up with nothing. I've always ran Mopar ATF+4 in the stock, but is there something better for a built transmission?

Call your trans builder and run what he tells you to run.

My tranny guy (a GM and Chrysler certified reman.) told me nobody makes any better fluids than Amsoil. I have it in my truck for all the oils and rear end grease and everything works great! They have a new fluid made especially for the NV4500 and NV5600.

If it was a stock transmission, it would be ATF +4. Thats because of the materials used in the bands and clutches being different than what other manufacturers use, and the oil needs to be compatable. But as the others have said, ask the guy who built the trans. Regardless of whats "best", find out what he says. After all, if something goes wrong with your trans, hes the one you have to talk to. Do you want him to say that its not covered because you used a fluid that he didn't approve?

I smoked quite a few transmissions using amsoil. Don't get me wrong, i think its the best oil/lube on the market, but not for transmissions.

If it was so great don't you think Dodge would of spec'd it for use in the stock transmission. It might have prevented them from paying out millions in warranty claims for the 47RE.

I also used Allison Transend. Had the same affect as the Amsoil.

Mopar ATF 3 and 4 are the exact same except for the heat rating. One can take more heat and still keep its properties the same.

I run amsoil in the diffs (netted me a 1 mpg increase) and amsoil in the t case.

Just regular atf 4 in the trans and delo in the motor.

You should pour about a quart and half before you stab the hub in the front pump.

If your TC came with bolts in the box USE THEM. They are a different length then the stockers and are used because the billet front cover holes are drilled/tapped shallower then the stock welded lugs.

Check with your builder but most of the ones I've dealt with say Dexron III plus Lube-Gard works great even in trannys that call for +4.

I specifically asked Eugene (NADP) this question, and he said +4.
