What are the logical steps for building a 24 valve up
My friend bought a real nice 01 sb extended cab. He has a edge ez on it right now. He just got a superchips programmer for free from his work ( he is a dc mechanic and they wont sell used trucks with performance stuff on them). He also has a pyro now (my old one)
What should he do next, keeping in mind that he dosent have alot of extra cash, and he isnt worried about going to crazy. I know a bit about cr stuff, but I am learning about 2nd gen stuff for him
thanks guys
Kevin

FUEL PRESSURE
get a gauge plumbed into the test port on the VP44, also look into a relocation kit for the stock lift pump, or get a pusher pump installed. that is the most important thing.
also he can not stack the superchips and Edge EZ because they both add timing. his best bet tho is to sell the superchips, there are much better things for him. he can sell it on ebay, then use the money to get the fuel system upgraded.

Gauges, (Fuel Fuel Fuel, Pyro, Boost and Trans-if auto)
Exhaust and Intake (BHAF or AFE, etc.)
*If auto, insert Trans upgrade
Chip (Smarty, Comp, etc)
*If manual, insert clutch upgrade
Up graded fuel system (either here or before chip!)
Injectors
Turbo
Twins
This is my thought. I'm sure others will both agree and disagree, but that should work pretty well.

Get a set of gauges, very importante, especially fuel!
As far as cheap mods. heres what I did:
Straight pipe: $40.00 at a muffler shop or $10.00 @ home, you and a saw zall
Yank the silencer ring $0.00
See, your allready on your way to having a half way decent sig
Intake: I went with the AFE, but Im sure the BHAF is a heck of a lot cheaper( not sure how much tho)

I have not been impressed with what I have seen of the BHAF. I realy like the AFE I use it on my truck and on all the trucks that I work on. The BHAF is not any larger than my stock 1stgen (its the biggest filter of all the Dodges)filter from what I can see.

what's logical and what are usually done are not necessarily the same thing...
logically, the first thing to do is fix the known issue(s)...
1.) FUEL SYSTEM. Now, there are no guarantees that a VP-44 won't still keel over but you've at least addressed the problem...
2.) Gauges, gauges, gauges, gauges, gauges...
3.) Intake and Exhaust
4.) First power upgrade... pick your poison with the knowledge that some mods will compromise an auto transmission faster than they will a stock clutch
5.) Address any trans issues, depending on your trans...
6.) More fuel and more air....... repeat this step as necessary.
I did #2(except fuel pressure ) and #3 before addressing #1 and by the time I got to #1, I had the 'death code'...

Thanks guys, Im glad to know about that superchips thing. I know personally about the tranny thing. He will probably get a tc and vb from nadp in the future. He has guages, so I am thinking according to your input, that it is time to do something with the vp44?
Thanks alot for your replies

I think fuel system upgrades are being recommended so he doesn't have to deal with a dead vp44. Its cooled by fuel so he needs good fp.
