what exactly does the "tapped" wire do?

So Marco or Hohn would you venture to say that the comp recieves the signal sent to the solenoid, then sends another short one right after it? I am conviced the comp is hard on the pumps electronics. And a signal flowing back into a Metal Oxide Semiconducting Field Effect Tansistor could be harmfull in a short amount of time causing pump failure. Eitherway now it has come to my understanding that if the metering valve is held open on an almost 100% duty cycle failure is inevitable ie "5x5". This is good stuff!

now im still confused, after reading marcos and hohns replies it still sounds like the comp receives the signal from the ecm and alters it,so my question is why cant the ecm be programmed to have the altered signal already in it?make that software 10 on the smarty, full catcher with comp like fueling.sounds good to me,when i get a smarty i will be waiting to download that new update.
