Weak vp?????????

I went to Alverado in hopes to get in so action. I went to dyno and sled pull for the first time. I was 3rd on the dyno and something was not right with the dyno after my three runs so I got two more. Then they pulled me off and figured out the power source was not good, so they got rid of the generator and plugged it into the building. An other friends truck went that knew where he should be to check the dyno. All is well so I got an other three runs. This is how they all went

Fuel pressure never got below 10psi
Boost was at 30psi
1. 2x4=248hp(this is what I daily drive at)
2. 5x5=257
3. 5x5=257
4. 5x5=257
5. Stock=214
6. 2x4=257
7. 5x5=257
8. 5x5=257

The truck before me had numbers where it should be and all after me had numbers where they should be. This leads me to think I might have a weak vp. It is a stock original with 165,000 miles on it and has been tapped since about 140,000 miles. The graph showed that when on 5x5 the hp and torque came on sooner then when on 2x4 but once it was at 2150rpm (225hp) it followed the same curve and line as all other runs. On the street I can feel a big difference between all levels (at least on the low end 1200-2200rpm). What do you think?? No matter what the comp is on I can not get past 257hp.

What were your peak hp gains? Even though your gain was 43hp at peak power, what were your gains down lower......like 2000rpm. Kinda makes me wonder if you got a good connection to your hot wire at the pump.

At 2000rpm it is at 200hp. I had a local shop put the comp on same time as my lift pump. They did the wire tap. How would I make sure it's good? Do you think my pump is good?

With 214hp stock, I really think your pump is fine man.....esp if you havent been having a dead pedal or other faulty pump symptoms. The other dyno numbers are comparable to what I'd expect from an Edge EZ on an otherwise stock engine which would be nearly the exact same as an Edge Comp that had a faulty wire tap. Just check your connection and make sure its tapped into the wire at the top and closest to the block. The only thing that confuses me is the fact you are making 30 psi of boost. Thats about the amount of boost I made with an Edge Comp that i know was hooked up correctly. Id have estimated in the ~300hp range for a stock truck with a Comp.

I was hoping to be 290-310 but I was not!! I will check the wire tap. What about dirty injectors? Could they cause this problem???

I truly doubt there's anything wrong with your truck......214hp stock pretty much shows that the engine is fine and ~10%+ drivetrain loss should be expected from the 235hp rating of your engine. 165k isnt that many miles for one of these engines. Your electronics just arent adding what they should IMO. Check that wire tap good and remember that Comps can go bad. My biggest question is how you have enough fuel to make 30psi but cant top 257hp.

Another sign that the wire tap may be faulty is the fact it gained a little power over the 2x4 setting by going to 5x5. An edge comp with a bad wire tap will only add power up to the level 3 setting even if set on level 5 IF the wire tap is the problem. And 257hp is about right on with a level 3 setting. Subfueling levels should really affect your peak power that much.......just how soon the fuel comes on.

Let me know if you ever need help, I live in stephenville and will do what I can to help you.

My 99 did 315hp with a comp on 5x5, nothing else but fuel pump and built trans. Id say verify the wire tap, or the comp working right itself.

I might have solved the problem. Before I got the comp I had a bd boost fooler and never took it off. So the fooler was not letting the comp see the right number, I think. I pulled it off and it blows more smoke and seems better but I will dyno in Ennis on the 28th to make sure.

What kinda of dyno you running on? For a stock truck just running a box, you have pretty good numbers. If you want more power, it take more than just a box.I've pulled a 300rwhp on a stock truck with the comp box set to 5X5. How much smoke do you have at wot?
