i know that w/m will raise cly. pressures, but will straight water do the same? at the moment i have a very nervous head gasket, and i really dont want to take it any closer to the edge, but if its safe to run water only, just to cool, i would like to do it...

Water should raise the pressure since youre assuming the same amount of air in the stroke, but some of the air has been replaced with denser, harder to compress water vapor and the air charge is now cooler and denser.
Methanol would do the same thing except when it ignites youll get pressure spikes in the cylinder.
I wouldnt run water / meth without orings and studs.

so, straight water still pushes the gasket even closer to the limit? thats all i really need to hear to leave it off untill i can get the head work done

I run mine without orings. I have the basic arp 135 ft*lbs in right now. I would give her a try. Might want to lower your blow-off valves some, if your nervous.
