the mack trucks didnt have full cut dv's and 150hp injectors. it's alot easier to control the smoke without them.

True also and they also had more displacement and alot bigger charger,.........so could he keep the full cuts, tune the afc and go with chrger that would clear most of the smoke on the top end like he was sayin a 66 or 68ish, I'm just not a big fan of plates it just seems to set in stone, theres too many diff situations that I'd like to know I had just a little more just incase you did need it even if you didn't use it alot.

The afc could be tuned to light a bigger charger even if it had to haze slightly to light if faster, just me I guess tryin to stay away from the plate.

My 62 with full cuts and stock inj will spool rather easily with just a light haze at less that 1300 in 3rd or 4th, and its a daily driver, granted I don't gernerally have to EVER get over 1/2 throttle even durring hard acelleration, just nice to know its there even if temps and smoke get out of hand if you do use it, just nice to know its there in a pinch.

Plates are good for limiting total fuel. Set it so you get the most power. Dyno is good for that. Full fuel doesn't always make the most power, so full forward or no plate isn't always the best option.

A haze when lighting the turbo would be normal. Lots of deep black smoke isn't, and doesn't help. AFC tuning is your friend.

I'd rather go with bigger injectors than full cut DV's. FC DV's don't have a sharp end of injection, which will give smoke and heat without much gain. Using lots of rack travel adds duration to injection event. The later the fuel is injected in the combustion cycle, the more heat and smoke it creates. Smokem on CompD has lots of info on stuff like this.
