the wastegate basically limits the amount of boost u can build. You can plug or pinch the line to up boost, and my wastegate has a bolt type thing that u can open or close to adjust how much boost u want to limit. It will be connected right by the turbo.

Do a search on turnbuckle or j-hook, you'll find lots of pictures and threads on it. This is your only option on a stock turbo, auto, 01-02 truck.

More boost won't give you more power. If you clear up the smoke WOT and you don't have to let off for EGT reasons you have enough boost. If you run more boost than necessary you'll need more energy to compress air unnecessarily and this energy will not be available at the crankshaft...
Keeping the WG closed all the time can be bad juju if you overspool the turbo-it will throw lots of pieces. Any more than 30-35 psi is far out of the efficiency map of the stock turbo, and will net less hp and higher EGTs..
Just my 2c

You might want to do it because your EGTs are too high and you have to let off for that reason. Moderately higher boost than the stock 21 psi will help you cool EGTs.

What kind of Boost are u getting right now at WOT? 15-20? 25-30? you should do the j-hook for now, because if ur only seeing around 20psi or so, the extra 10 psi is a whole other level, it's some fun power up there.

When I had the stock auto I could barely hit 18psi. When I did the 100 plate I re-clamped the boost line to the barb fitting(didn't plug or pinch it) just tightened things up, and now with the 5spd I can hit 30psi easily, probably more I haven't held WOT for to long yet, and the thing just flys. I think the banks housing and wastgate help over stock, but once 30 psi hit's you really can't believe it's the same truck.
