waste gate mods for quad boost fooler on an 01 auto?
got a chance to buy a used boost fooler but have heard that you have to modify the waste gate..is this true? Its an 01 auto

You don't have to modify the wastegate if you don't want to. However if you want to see higher than stock regulated boost, then yes you will have to modify the wastegate.

The point of the boost fooler is so that you can see higher boost. To see higher boost the wastegate has to stay shut longer. For the wastegate to stay shut longer it has to be modified. FWIW, the modification is probably a smaller fitting and installs very quickly.
