Waste Gate "Flutter"?
Finally got around to putting a 12cm W/G housing on my truck. I have the sensor line to the actuator open (not connected to anything). I am very happy with it, with one big exception: I get what seems to be a "fluttering" of the waste-gate at moderate throttle with around 13 to 17 psi of boost -- you can hear it and the boost jumps around like crazy. If you tromp on it hard and steady, it will spool right up to about 22 psi without any trouble what so ever.
The flutter doesn't seem like it can be good for the turbo.
Is this a common problem? I assume that it is due to having the actuator line disconnected . . . but I seem to like the way the gate operates otherwise as it currently is.
Thanks for your help,
Alec

I would just try to wrap some wire around the wastegate lever and actuator bracket in such a way as to hold it closed. See if that works the way you like and doesn't give you too much boost at WOT.

You could also try to use a short bit of rubber line with a plug with a small hole in it connected to the actuator to dampen it's movements.

Just my 2c

AlpineRAM

I was thinking along the same lines -- turning the actuator head into an air shock, or even filling it with silicone brake fluid and attaching it to a reservoir through an orifice. . .

I am curious, though -- has anyone else disconnected thier actuator and had the same problem?

Thanks,

Alec
