want to do some head work

would like to get some work done on the head b4 adding alot of HP.. just wonderin what all there is to do while the head is off id like to do it all in one shot... i really don't know what my HP goals are but knowing me its never enough so i would like to get every thing prepared for ALOT OF HP instead of having to have it re done... just would like to know what some things i can do are , what there benifits are and aprox cost... thnx

It really does depend on your goals, but I might suggest...

deck head, check for cracks/leaks, clean up ports.

I'm not sure what truck you have and what springs are on your exhaust valves now.

cut the head for o-rings and a new cummins gasket. Add ARP studs (size and specs depend on what you want to do $$$$).

I did the above and had just around $1400 in parts including machine work on the head, new gaskets, springs, studs, coolant, etc...

You can buy heads ready to go from vendors rather than use yours.

Yep, he has great prices and good service. I've talked to him on the phone several times and bought my last few goodies from him. It's nice when you can have the new head ready to go as soon as the old one comes off.

I bought the first fully built to the hilt ported and polished head from Garrett and it has been great.

I think smokin24v has a 24 valve so this wont work for him.
