Walbro lift pump?
Ive been told by several that Walbro offers the best bang for your buck as far as reliable fuel pressure goes. My stock lift pump has gradually been losing pressure over the last 6000miles and so Im ready for a very reliable aftermarket fix. How much fp will this kit give me, I dont want to have to buy a 30psi gauge(I already have a 15psi). Where can I get a complete kit for my stock HO, at the best price? If you guys know of a better product--what is it and why is it better(I probably wont get one of those fass setups because its too pricey-I just want consistant and reliable fp. Im away from home and dont have my tools so Im going to have to take it into a shop to get the work done-how long does the installation usually take? (so I have an idea of how much Ill be charged).
Thanks for the input, Drew Stuart

glacierdiesel.com sells the walbro setup. Personally, and I know I'm gonna catch heck with this comment, but the walbro has not been out long enough to prove itself to me. The longest I've seen on these trucks is I think around 2 years if even that. IMO not enough time. Now I know they've been run in the gasser world for years but this is diesel and it is a different fuel and a different application than the pump was designed for so we'll see. Personally, I'd prefer a FASS. They've been out for a while and have proven themselves and their customer service is great.

Ya bigblue , Your going to catch heck. Give jason a call at www.wideopendiesel.com they got the best price around for the 392 kit thats the bigger pump, make sure you got the extra and get the cleanable filter for the rear of the truck. take a look at there site. wide opens kit come set at about 15-16 psi You should be fine with a 15psi gauge Just like I have. Mine is set right at 15psi so the gauge is maxed out. I am fine with that. I have a cheap gauge I got from northener tools thats a 30 psi mounted under the hood pre filter. any other question send me a pm hope this helps cole

BigBlue won't catch any heck from me..... at all.
I run the 392 kit in my 01, because I require reliability. the "work every day, regardless of weather conditions, more concientious than your mailman" reliability.
That being said, I have only had this system on for about 7 months, and several bouts of -40 to -50C weather, with the ONLY glitch being the JIC "t" fitting had a tendency to leak a little. I replaced that "t" with a new one, and no problems since, sits steady @ 20psi idle, gets all the way down to 18 at WOT pulling. Let me tell you, that is just terrible performance.
Oh, and not once have I had to get under the truck and tap the housing with a hammer to free the brushes up in colder weather, like I had to do with some of the older FASS units. Now as I understand it, FASS has gone to a brushless design. Good on them, and I do sincerely wish them the absolute best of luck in all their endeavours. They make an excellent product, which I am convinced would work great for the average person. Being a below average person, I simply go with what works for me.
I am not affiliated with either company, although I do promote Glacier Diesel products rather aggressively.
