Walbro & Draw Straw

Well, my 1 year old Carter pump is having fluctuating fuel pressure problems. It has been slowly losing pressure over the last few months and now it's jumping around at idle from 13# down to 10#. I installed the Vulcan Pusher Pump Relocation Kit at the time of the new Carter a year ago. I'm done with the these stock pumps (I believe this is my 3rd or 4th...I lose track). I'm thinking of going with the Walbro pump kit with the Draw Straw. Where is the cheapest place to get these?

Have you checked the Dipricol level in yourfuel pressure line?
I had the same problem and had to fill the line back up.

I don't know if they're the cheapest, but I got my walbro kit from http://www.wideopendiesel.com/page8.html

Same thing that you have happening happened to me. Vulcan relocated stock lift pump started going out after 3 months. I just put the walbro kit in there without the draw straw and its been working fine for 3 weeks, running 20psi.

atch, I'm running my guage with a needle valve and without an isolator so it should be straight diesel to the guage. I change the fuel filter about 5,000 miles ago. I've spent about $360 in stock pumps in the last couple years so it's time for a change.

Yeah, check out wide open diesel. That's where I got mine, they have a kit that will work with your vulcan big line kit.

The pump is sounding pretty sick now. When I turn the key and the pump cycles, it doesn't sound too strong. Sounds like it's kind of weak and the fuel pressure guage only hits about 12# before dropping back down before start up. It use to shoot up to 15#. Thanks JD730 & Timberman for your help!

Installations complete!

A buddy and I installed the Walbro Pump Kit and Vulcan Draw Straw on Tuesday. Took about 6 hours total without rushing. After the install was complete, I fired it up and the fuel pressure gauge needle was pegged at 30 psi. I could rev the motor and it would just barely come off the peg pin. Shut it down and adjusted the pump regulator. Started it back up and was at 23 psi idle, 21 cruising and 16 wot. Think I'll leave it right there.
