Vulcan Big Line kit - extended cab short bed

Well I finally decided to install the big line kit from vulcanperformance. The kit arrived with every part necessary and a few extra clamps. First thing to do was install the fittings and pre assembled hose from the filter to the VP. Fittings went in fine (18 ft.lbs) ...but the hose just didnt seem right. It was to darn long no matter how i tried to route it. After about 2 hours of work, I decided to trim the line to the way I thought it should fit.

Step 2: Where to mount the bracket....that is a good question. I was under there for an hour trying to decide. There is just no room for a quad cab, short bed HO with a 35 gal tank. So I thought....outside the rail...fuel hose in the kit wasnt long enough and I was thinking it needed some sort of protection from road debris. I ended up mounting it up inside the frame rail where the cut out is directly above the skid plate mounting bracket. I had to grind away some of the rail and drill mounting holes in the frame, but I finally got it mounted.

I cut the line, connected all the fittings, primed the pump...twice. She fired up, idled rough for a few seconds....then purrs right along. The fuel pressure is much more consistant than before between idle and WOT. I am noticing the fuel pressure is lower than I expected...idle 10 to 12 psi...this pump has less than 5,000 miles on it..and its the second pump with less than 40,000 miles on the truck. The pump has a somewhat odd humming noise that is always noticable, mainly because the pump is under the driver's side door, but it is easy to live with. The WOT pressures stay above 9, unless the pump act up, then its around 7 and idles at about 9 to 10....stupid pump.

Overall, great kit, easy to do, well worth the investment if for nothing more than piece of mind. Oh yeah, I got wing nuts for the lift pump mounting for those necessary evil quick changes, just dont forget to carry the wrenches to remove the fittings from the pump and a screwdriver for the clamps.

He send's the lines a bit long to make sure they suit everyones routing preference.

Your bracket/pump location is fine, actually it is probably BEST there. I have mine waaaay back by the tank, I cut my hardline as short as humanly possible.

Get a piece of hard rubber and mount it in between yor pump and frame rail. See if that gets rid of the noise you hear...
