VP44 wire tap question

I lost my VP at 40K with no wire tap! (I was one of the rash of failures)
You either have a good one or you don't. You won't kill a good one by tapping the wire, JUST LIKE YOU WON'T KEEP A BAD ONE ALIVE BY *NOT* TAPPING THE WIRE.
That said, your VP has "worn in" using only a certain range of travel in the slot in the distribution head. When you tap the wire, it will use up more of this slot. In other words, keep the box set low (COMP on 2xwhatever) then slowly ramp it to higher settings after about 500miles on each setting. By the time you hit level 5, you should have had the box on for 2K miles or so and the pump should shrug off the tapped wire.
At least, that's MY theory

Thank you....well said......I'm not always as clear as I would like to be.
What I'm not sure of in your post is that there is anything you could physically define as wearable in the rotor/slot and pump body since no parts there actually contact each other - assuming of course, that the pump is fine and the tolerances are correct. I know the tolerances are supposed to be quite tight - but no contact, right?

Hmm, now you get me thinking (I'll try not to make you regret that, lol)
I'd have to think you are right. I re-read Blue Chip's article on VP failures and it appears that I ASSumed something that wasn't there! I was imputing to the article something it did NOT say.
Good catch. NO CONTACT! (or at least, there shouldn't be or you will have BIG pump problems in 0.000001 seconds).

Well pump failure or not I've decided to go for it. The wife got a new diamond
ring for our 20th wedding anniversary. If my pump dies she can buy me a new
Hot Rod Vp44 from Blue chip for my gift.

I am not trying to scare you. I rolled the dice and lost, but I was happy to get 125K out of the original. Just need to be aware of the POTENTIAL risk of the VP laying down on you.
No worries mate!!

I connected my wire last year. I didn't tighten one of the aftercooler boots enough and when the boost came up and the boot squealed and popped, I thought I'd killed my pump. After retightening the clamp, no problems since.
You could put in some bigger injectors first..since you'll end up putting some in anyway after the bombing bug sets the hook
