VP44 to P-pump...How much $$$$$

How much would it cost me...(just a ballpark figure) to convert my 2002 VP44 over to a P-pump?

I'm in about $4k CDN with mine. Thats including a new FASS (whenever it arrives) to up the FP to 45 psi. I should be able to recover around $1k in useable parts (my VP isn't toast, should be good for a couple bucks). The swap itself isn't bad, just hope you're not squeamish when it comes time to cut part of the head off.

Tate - why a new FASS on the P pump? Not trying to hijack - please PM if that is more convenient. Thanks,
jason

Fuel pressure on a stock 12v is around 25psi at idle up towards 40 at 2500 rpm. More if the spring in the over flow has been stretched. My FASS is in the 17-19 range, so its lower. I've heard several accounts that they run even better with more fuel pressure, so thats where I'm heading.

Sorry if this is ignorant - the advantage of the FASS is the adjustablility range up to 45psi as opposed to the stock 12v lift that is what it is unless you use a pressure regulator?

My 5th VP is on the way out and I'm trying to understand what lift/pusher system and why. The fact that you are using a FASS on a p pump seems to be a big check in the plus column for the FASS. Again, sorry if I am off the thread subject.

A mech lift pump would be great for my application, but I am running the stock cam, so there is no extra lobe to run it. Any aftermarket fuel system is going to be adequate (for the most part) for the VP trucks. The big reason I'm doing a FASS again is because I can just unbolt the pump and connections, and swap the new pump in. If I didn't have it already, I would've explored other options. FASS is a great system, but it is pricey, and there are other options out there. But I like the extra filters.

I thought the 98's came with the lope on the cam to run a mechanical pump. Thought they did away with it in 99.

Mine did not have an extra lobe. As far as I know, the only 98 that would have a lobe would be a 98 12v. Or get an aftermarket cam and run a mech pump. Price of a cam and springs is far greater than a FASS, but I will be going down that road someday anyway. Probably next year.
