VP44 death from wire tap?

Somebody told me that tapping the wire for the comp box causes enough early VP44s to fail that one may think twice Has any one heard of this, or had it happen?

It's a crap shoot.

Some have tapped the wire on 98.5's and 99's and had the pump die very soon after.

Others have had the wire tapped for many many miles with no problems.

if you are looking for a way to do it without tapping wire there is a plug set up i believe from blue chip that has a extra wire on it for the extra wire, call scott at renegade diesel 717-989-6481 he had gotten me mine its like 50-60 dollars and then there is no tapping of the wire

Blue Chip Diesel has them... Give 'em a call!

I've had one on my truck for about 20K+ so far w/out any issues!

Even if you are using the Blue Chip cover, it still "taps" the wire. The connection is much cleaner and effective with the cover versus the box.

Thanks guys I think I will probably just roll the dice. I have only got 60k on it and never went with a bad lift pump (gauges since year old and lift pump down to 10psi now) I hope any of the failures were due to bad LPs prior to tapping in. Thanks

mine went about a month after tapping the wire w/ 70k miles and a good LP. Not trying to scare you but it is reality, you are asking the pump to "stretch" further than it ever has before, didn't happen till the one day i really cranked the fueling box up. As long as you are prepared to spend the $1100 or so and turn the wrenches for A few hours let it rip! I will say even though the VP went it was still worth it, truck runs awesome now and the new VP was broken in from the 1st minute of it's life and runs great...good luck, just sharing my realistic experience w/ ya.

when you tap the wire the way edge tells you too it someimes cuts some of the strands of the wire which makes the wire feeding the signal too small and has to carry too much current, and the longer the box wire is tapped the more it moves back and forth on the wire,if you are going to do the tap thing soldier the thing on instaed of the tap wire piece, then you dont have to worry about the thing wearing thru and you will have a good contact, friend of mine has had his on for a long time that way and no problems and his is a older 24 valve, use you judgement but its alot cheaper for the blue chip plug then a injection pump,(not that there is a guarentee it wont break anyway but will have a good conection from the get go

After my third BLUECHIP BOX in 2000, mine blew a brand new VP pulling out of the shop's driveway. The newer VP44's have been up graded. They should work much better. If you blow it, call piers & get their high performance VP. It is the REAL DEAL!!!!!!! It is only a couple hundred more & gives you an advertised 70 HP increase.
