it dosent matter if you use a pump cover or not. read this whole thread.

one of the guys in there said been driving 1k w/ comp problem free, his vp died 2 weeks ago.
get a TST if possible.
the percentage is very high that your comp will take out your vp44, electrical problems are very common with comps.
why take the chance with your $1100 pump?
i know the tst cost more but i have never heard of them taking out a vp and plenty of people have them!
i was in your shoes, the comps are so cheap, guess why?
im just trying to help you.

I really can't see how a better way to tap the wire will help. Maybe a better connection is all but the wire is still tapped and that could cause more stress on your VP. The only issue is the low fuel pressure, get a good way to supply fuel to that IP and your worries are over. Never let fuel pressure get lower than 10psi. Some say 5psi but ten is what bosch says and that is what i say too.

if its going to blow, the BD cover isnt going to stop it.They were made for back when those trucks were under warranty, for a short time, you could get away with using a cover, then putting the stock one back on,if the pump fried. If a pump was going to blow ,it usually happened within 100 miles of installing the pump wire tap box.DC caught onto it eventually too.Save your money, just tap the wire, and hope for the best. If you cant afford the 1100 for a new pump, consider sending back the Edge box, because that is just the tip of what the extra power can damage, clutches, auto trannys, turbo, head gaskets all take an extra beating with added fuel, and there life can be shortened too,how much depends on how you drive.

Putting a chip is the tip of the iceburg and the effects can snowball quickly. I love my chip and I love my truck and 3000 buck later i still don't have it all worked out.(Trans, Fuel system) You can only hope that if you put a chip it will all hold up and not snowball. Good Luck and have fun.

It will be a good investment and the guages are worth it just don't tap and take it easy and you will get plenty of power and hopefully lots of use. you can always tap later if the power is not there. The edge is the best chip with guages!

no he dosent have his pump tapped, because he's already killed the pump once!
he says it in his thread.
their is a very good chance you kill your pump since it has 160k on it.

Not always,my pump is orginal with over 130K,and it had a drag comp on it for about 4 yrs,and i do not baby the truck! The miles do not even tell the 1/2 of how many hours it has plowing. It isnt uncommon for me to run 400 hrs plowing snow/idling a winter, and all that wont even put 1200 miles on it.

You couldn't have said it better. I am $3500 deep and love my truck too, but I have a fueling or boost problem I have been chasing for two months now.
