VP$$ and peoples stupidity
#31
I did mine the hard way. I removed the gearbox cover. I found afterwards that you can twist off/remove the blow-by cover. The next thing is to make sure you have a slotted gear puller for the gear thats on the VP pump. The rest is plug-play. My keyway stayed with the pump and didn't end up in the oil pan. The only other tricky thing was to purging the air from the injector lines. I cracked open injector line #1 first and then I used #3 if I remember correctly. The motor is actually very simple and well designed. I had one lobe on my stock cam that was wiped. Thanks goodness for the highend Brazilian steel. I was thinking about getting a new one from cummins but thats one job I kinda don't want to do again.

I find that bleeding the air works best if you leave #1 and #4 open. And then just cycle the LP by bumping the motor until you see fuel run out of the lines. Then tighten them up and 95% of the time it will catch.....run like crap for a min.....and run it up to 2300 RPM and its smooths out. ALSO make sure you plug the pump back up......not that i have ever done that........man that was a long 2 hrs.........
