VP$$ and peoples stupidity

This guy Bryan I work with has a 2000 CTD that he bought from my dad with like 80K on it..........well he now has 225,000K on it and his VP44 went out on him the other day. Had it towed to cummins and they charged him $2,900 freakin dollars to replace his VP44 and the lift pump!!!!!!!!!!!!

I told him before he did that, that I would install it all if he got the parts and he wouldn't listen. I could have possibly saved him almost a grand

Well to boot, I told him that he REALLY needs to get a FP gauge so that he can tell next time when he starts having a problem and he refuses to do it. He thinks he doesn't need one and doesn't want to spend the money

Some people and their stupidity. I told him not to come crying to me next time his truck breaks down.

Everyone can't be good with a wrench.

That's why dealer's service departments and full time mechanic' shops can stay in business.

I would say 225,000k is pretty good. I'm on my 3rd lift pump at just over 50k. Still my first vp though.

Oh I know, he sucks as a mechanic.......but I was willing to install all of it for free and he wouldn't do it........oh well guess that's what I get for trying to be nice

Maybe he thinks you're a hack mechanic?

I can't see any reason why a non-mechanically inclined person would turn down help...

Hey just because I had installed the wrong spark plugs in my cummins doesn't mean I'm a hack

The fact that you installed them "wrong side out" from INSIDE the combustion chamber might have tipped him off.......

i have a buddy who is that way...i coulda got him a yamaha grizzly 660 for $6495 and a winch for $70 with it if he could have waited just ONE week to go with me to the dealer in romney, wv...but he had to have his bike ASAP so he went and bought one here in baltimore for $8100 and got no plow, no winch...nothing.

for $8200 in romney you can get the limited edition grizzly, a small utility trailer, and a winch...my bro-in-law did it just 3 months after the other guy already bought his bike.

this same guy also bought a used 03 ford 7.3 PSD for $38k because he had to have a superduty ASAP

I bought my replacement VP pump from PDR for about $1700 cdn, plus 500 core charge. It took me about 3 hrs to replace the pump. A lift pump is around $170 from cummins. I think that cummins was slightly more around $2400 cdn including core. $6K sounds high, maybe you guys are making too much money out east and have to support your dodge dealer.
