Question vise grips

I`ve heard you all talk about squezing off the line for the waste gate> What does that do, and does it hurt anything???

it just blocks off the signal to the wastegate actuator... you can do the same with an adjustable boost elbow or by cramming a 22 shell in the boost line and putting a clamp around it.

This is advantageous if you have a box that can fool the computer, so it doesn't see over 21 PSI and set a code. The extra boost willl allow you to burn the fuel instead of making black smoke, giving you more power.

This being a bad thing depends on how much fuel you are running. If you are running enough fuel you can overspeed the turbo and then KABOOM! With my stock 99, adding only a PM3 Comp and disabling the WG, I got 35 PSI, max, out of the HX35. This is the top end of the efficiency map for the HX35. You do not want to try and get any more boost than that out of it. Some say it shouldn't even go that high.

So, if you disable the WG, and aren't running too much fuel, you will be OK. Too much fuel means anything over 35PSI on an HX35.

I'll second. 3rd, and 4th the 35psi on the stock turbo.

I'm hitting 40, and I'm almost positive that it superheats the air SO BAD that high intake temps, and high turbo drive pressure is what is causing my high EGT's.

Speaking of which, I'm gonna go try and get the wastegate set at 35psi and see if that helps any. Right now I've got it closed off completely

Chris, your EGT's may or may not go down by dropping the boost to 35, but your head gasket and your turbo will be thanking you.

Ok guys, so what am I gona see by doing this with an all stock setup, well all most, 4" pipe, and BHAF. I dont have guages yet, but comin soon. What is this gona do to the long term life of the turbo? I have 240, 000 miles on the stock one and I want to make it at least till the stock tranny goes. Thats leading to my next question, whats this gona do to the tranny, I also have the stock one with 240,000 miles on it and want it to last long enought till I get an ATS or DTT. Hows this gona sound?, the truck sees 100 miles on the high way 6 days a week, and we all love the noise but after a long day......... is there a big difference on WOT? or MPG? Chris

with a 12CM housing on I could hit 50PSI but now with a 18CM I can not break 45 on the road. i can't go with a bigger turbo because I don't want to enter that class when pulling. I'm still in college so there aint no money for all the stuff I need to compete and place in the big single charger class.

Again, it depends on how much fuel you put into it. Do you have any idea how much fuel you plan to put in there before you do the tranny?
With your current fueling, are you making much black smoke? If you only have a Power Puck, I'm thinking not, and this should not hurt the stock tranny, regardless of the wastgate setting. The Puck can't fuel enough to bring the boost high enough to start breaking things, unless you tranny or turbo already has issues.
You might want to consider getting your line pressure turned up in the tranny, at least. This will make it last a little longer.
