Van Aaken V-5 vs R

I have a friend who is interested in purchasing a Van Aaken box. What are the differences (advantages and disadvantages) between the V-5 and R models?
Thanks, Steve

I would stay away for the "R" if possible. The V-5 is new technology and does not connect to the loom at the back of the injection pump.
I know you can find the R for about $260, but they are NOT new, 95% chance they are out of warranty and VA won't assist you with a problem.
A new in the box V-5 can be had for about $360.00 shipped from a reputable seller on E-Bay.

why do you say to stay away from the one that connects to the back of the pump????? just curious as I have one of them, & for it to stack with a fueling box later on wouldn't you have to use this style???? I really like my VA & it's not given me any trouble???? just curious, thanks, Dusty

I'm saying if you have the choice (which in the past you did not) might as well get the one that doesnt break the seal at the VP-44 loom. I guess there aren't too many people left in warranty, so it matters less.
I'm not saying it's going to cause you a problem, just saying if I were to get one it would be the V-5. I think other than where they connect they are the same box.

is the R box able to act as a boost fooler since it doesn't plug in at the map/diag like the V5?

I have the V5 and I am very pleased, but I'm cheap. $650 for RV275/300 injectors and a V5 and I'm very satisfied with the results

10HAAP,

The R box requires that you break the seal on the inj pump, if you have warranty left you probably don't want to do it! Most (if not ALL) sellers of VA products sell the R only as it installs easier and leaves the pump alone, if you have found R boxes on ebay be cautious as ther is one seller there that is selling tham as new when in fact they are used and remanufactured without ANY warranty from VA! This has been discussed here before so do a search if you want for a few hours reading time!

You're only a 100.00 or so from a new warrantied VA box, I suggest you get one from a Sponsor and be safe vs potentially sorry!

P.S. MICAH is right, get a set of the 275RV Bosch's and a V box and you'll be really happy.
