valve cover w/ studs

does anyone make an afermarket high rise valve cover or a thicker valve cover gasket. i am putting on my arp head studs and milling the rocker arm petastal seems like way to much for a simple problem. i read about grinding the webbing down just wonderd if there was any other options

Some people get away without grinding just by bottom tapping the holes. If you do this it wont be much grinding at all.

if the instructions say to mill the rockers, you'd better do it.

if you don't mill the pedistals, and screw in the studs, you'll find that there are only 2-3 threads remaining for your nut at the top of the rocker pedistal.

ARP has a "late model" and "early" style stud kits. the early didn't require pedistal machining, but did require you bottom tap and spot mill the valve covers...

the late kits have you machine the pedistals. i believe they still suggest bottom tapping the holes thoguht.

follow the instructions.

I removed the webbing in my valve covers and still did not have enough clearance. I removed the long studs one at a time and ground them shorter.

When I re-installed them, I left the heavy, thick washer out and the stud came right to the top of the nut. I had enough clearance without gaskets. I used just the valve cover without a gasket to test fit the whole assembly. I installed new gaskets and everything is good and tight.

Do whatever you want but I would make sure you have the washers installed since the torque will be different from the other suds if you dont. And make sure the threads come all the way through the nuts so you dont ruin a stud or nut or have a problem later (after you do a 4000rpm pull at high pressure and temp). JMHO!!! I ground my covers (second headgasket)but I had the old studs. The first headgasket we left the washer out and blew the headgasket from the cylinder to the long stud on every cylinder except #1.

Dodge 359,

You are pushing your engine a lot harder than I am. I have seen 43-45 PSI sporadically for three years and have not had a problem. That does not mean no one else will have a problem with their set-up.

My EGT's have never been at 1200 either!

I only want to help a fellow member here. My opinions and experience should be taken for what it costs you to read it!

Like a previous poster stated "Read the instructions"

I have seen places where you can buy machined pedestals with a core charge until you return yours.
