Using the boost elbow from the Edge Compbox on a PDR40?

Hey guys just curious can u use the boost elbow supplied with the edge comp box on the PDR 40 to make it hold the higher boost numbers longer or to increase mid range boost number? Anyone done this? What were your results?

Don't do it. If anything adjust your exishting wastegate to obtain your desired boost. Even if you adjust it I would not go over 45psi....period. Put the elbow in and it will allow to take the turbo higher then you really want to go. Take it too high and off to orbit it goes.

Jamie, I'm curious as to why you are so worried about boost levels. Are your EGT'S high or something?
If you can run a comp and 2's with your 40 at 30 lbs of boost but your egt's max at say 1400- is that a problem?
Not flaming- just asking ;D

Re:Using the boost elbow from the Edge Compbox on a PDR40?

Jamie,

A friend of mine has a 2001 with a 40 on it. We took a boost elbow supplied by TST and put it on. There elbows have a set screw in them that you can adjust. I have one in my truck as well and have it adjusted so that I hit 44 lbs. of boost before the wastegate opens. Seems to work great on my truck. My friend had the elbow supplied with the edge box on and I believe his max boost was somewhere in the high 30's. The elbow from TST is about $25. I don't know to much about the 24 valves but thought this might help. I am interested to see what you find out.

Re:Using the boost elbow from the Edge Compbox on a PDR40?

I can hit 40 PSI no problem under load I was just trying to get the boost up in lower RPM's. If I stand on it and get it on the floor WOT then my EGT's will keep climbing past 1500 degreese so I get out of it. I am just looking for a way to make the PDR40 Zip to 40 PSI quicker to make my EGT's stay under control for a bit longer about 1/4 mile should do it. I was hoping that by installing the elbow I could get the boost up to 40 quicker making the EGT's stay down longer or giving the turbo a little more chance of handling the really aggressive fueling up top.

Jamie,
Do you have an aftermarket exhaust manifold. I have been looking into getting one and the one made by ATS is supposed to give you a little but quicker spool up and lower your egt's. If you do already have one how do you like it.

KatDiesel,
Do you have one of the ATS manifolds. I want to buy one but I am not sure if I want to spend the money right now. Do you think that it is worth it. I have heard a lot of good things about it.

Jamie,
I have a friend that uses a restrictive elbow that is provided with the Edge Comp for use in his PDR 40.
On regular ocassion he spools past 40 psi into the 41-42 area.
It seems the wastegate is still opening.
I run a similar fuel set up and I can only hit 36 psi with a Drag Comp.

Yrusoslow,
I would advise the ATS manifold, they are a nice strong addition to your truck.
I have noticed quicker spool up after its installation, besides that they look great.

--Justin

Yes I have the ATS exhaust manifold, if your on the fence then wait until your stock one cracks. Its not going to be a "noticable" gain when you just change exhaust manifolds. Do I think it is worth it in my application? You bet.....I need all the airflow I can get.......in and out of the engine, plus I didn't want to crack my stock one with the temperture changes. Yes they are exspensive, but they are not a "must have" modification unless yours is cracked. So its upto you to decide if you need it. It looks nice as well.

This is just my opinion.

Mines not done yet, was going to do it when I get a ported head.

What size nut fits the turbo where it bolts to the manifold on the trucks I lost a nut and need to replace it. Its where the turbo and the manifold meet and its the nut on the bottom side.
