Upgrading a HTT 62/12 to a 62/14??

I have a HTT 62/65/12 now and I am thinking about upgrading to 62/71/14. The 62/12 gets way too hot. What is involved in the up grade? Is it something I can do myself without much trouble?

What's involved ? ------ pulling the 62/12 off and installing a the 71 on.

Whole different turbo.

Better off selling the 62/65 & buy a 62/71. Like Mountaineer said, different turbo & upgrading yours would cost almost as much as buying another turbo.

Thanks, thats what i needed to know. I heard you could upgrade to a larger size pretty easy, but I guess thats just the exhaust housing.

its about a $600 upgrade so you might me better off buying a new charger, but you dont have to.

i actually wanted to downgrade mine to a 62/65/13ss. too bad your not ss housing.

There you go, he can just buy a SS housing & swap you, cheapest way to go.

I know its $400 to upgrade the exhaust housing, not sure what it would cost for a 56 to 71. Better off buying a new one, pm me if you want to find a new home for the 62/12 since I'm in Raleigh going to school at NC State.

hey just send the turbo to htt and tell them to put the 13ss on and upgrade to the 71 wheel and compressor, its cheaper than a new turbo, thats what im gonna do, i have a 64/71/14 but its to laggy and sucks for towing so im gonna downsize to 62 compressor and a 13ss, plus it'll be a good top turbo in my future twin setup

Curious why the downgrade? You wont gain the spool up you think you will.

its not for spool up, my 62 spools fast.

i want lower cruising temps. i dont do enough WOT blasts, that is where the 71mm wheel shines.

i might be making the wrong decision, but i feel the 65 is a better DD turbo for me.

Well let me know how it turns out. I have went from a 64/65/12 to a 64/71/14 and I lost probably 150-200 degrees peak and never really had any noticable sacrifice anywhere else. Plus the 71 has almost zero bark on shifts.

do you mean 62? you show a 62 in your sig.

when you say peak do you mean WOT or cruising?

by peak he probably means wide open.. if he does really have a 64 like mine hes not jokin they really do have a serious egt drop wot... it also takes longer for it to get anywhere near hot. for me wot is 1300 from a dead stop and by the time i hit that mark im basically out of rpm(for now) if im going from a roll it will barely touch 1200 i used to almost instantly nail 1500(it probably went past that but the gauge doesnt go that far)
