Up the Timing?

Up the Timing?
WHat exactly happens when you adjust the timing?
How do you adjust the timing? i called some local performance shops and they told me that they won’t do it, too much of a liability.
Is it hard to adjust the timming?

stock timing on the 94-96ctd is 12*. 97-98 was 14* I just had mine advanced to 16* by an ag repar shop that also builds and runs modified pull tractors. This engine is very common in ag and construction equipment. They did mine in an hour for $80. the benifits are lower egt's, less smoke, and better mpg's. havent had time to test it all yet but wroking on it.

I might add that it is'nt much of a performance shop that wont do a timing ajustment. the guys that did mine said 15-16* is the sweetspot for these trucks. he said he's done hundreds of them.
