Unusual torque plate question/issue?
Just got the clutch in and put the #0 torque plate in I ground. Notice a big jump in power but no smoke at all. When I had the stock 215HP plate in, slid foreward with the star screw all the way it smoked like a trail but now with the #0 in and the star screw untouched there is no smoke at all. What's going on? I figuered going with the #0 I would be leaving trails everywhere. Is something wrong? I'm not complaining just wondering about the mechanics of what's going on. Also this is the truck in my sig with the addition of the wastegate is blocked off now.

All the way foreward along with the cover, nothing in the setup has changed from the 215HP to the #0 they are both in the same position, cover is in the same position and the star wheel was not moved.

check your gov arm it is probally diving under your plate. open up the afc, bump the starter to lift up the shut down solenoid (make sure that is lifting up all the way too). look at where the arm stikes the plate if it doesnt it needs to be adjusted. do a search on how to adjust it.

Did the search and that sounds right. It dogs out a bit from idle to about 1500 but pulls like hell above 1500. Hopefully I can bail early from work and get it adjusted.
Thanks again guys, another one solved.

OK, went in to adjust the gov arm and with the screw flush with the head of the nut I'm still 1/4" below the plate. I'm paranoid about having the screw or nut drop into the pump so not too thrilled about removing the nut and loctiting the screw. Can I put a longer screw in so the nut would still thread or is it a propriatary screw to the pump? Also, how difficult/feasible is it to remove the back housing of the pump to do the adjustment? This is my driver so if anything catastrophic happens (dropping the screw/nut) which makes it inop I don't go to work which means I'm really screwed.

I may be way off, but I think the governor arm raises up a bit when the truck is idling. If so, then you may have already adjusted it too high. If i'm way off, then please disregard, I am a 24valve guy.

Yeah, Bigblue is right...kind of. Are you making sure that the truck is in the "on" position? The shutoff solenoid has to be pulled up in order to adjust the gov arm, otherwise you'll be way too low.
