The Ultimate Question: Exhaust

What is the best sounding turbo back 4 inch exhaust. the best value? IS stainless steel worth the extra cost? how long will aluminized last in south dakota where we have quite a bit of salt in the winter. I would really appreciate any answers as I am ready to make a decision. thanks

Stainless is worth the money for me. The sound as well as the choice of aluminized or stainless is a matter of opinion. I wish mine was a little louder. I do like the idea that I'll not have to replace the exhaust for the life of the truck, though. Just some thoughts....

I notice you don't like chevy's but my 96 gasser had 409 stainless steel exhuast and I was told it would outlast my truck. Which maybe true but I didn't like the cracks started happening in it. Perhaps I was the exception but I prefer the cheaper aluminized stuff.

I'm in the same boat...aluminized -OR- stainless. Although stainless looks much better, I don't usually admire the underside of my truck very long, plus a nice chromed or polished tip will look nice too.
btw, do many people with stainless experience cracks ?

I've got aluminized on my truck and after several trips through salt water, I haven't had any problems wth rust. If you hose it off after going through it and don't let it sit on there for very long, you shouldn't have a problem.

exhaust

its not that i dont like chevys, just their diesels, especially everyone who thinks the duramax is so great. i didnt realize there was cracking problems with the stainless. im thinkin aluminized will work for me. but now the question is what brand as far as sound and value. thanks. having a lot of people with my kinda pickup to talk to about things help alot.

Straight pipe it, then the brand makes no difference in the sound. For price, it's hard to beat the system Summit Racing sells. They don't list the 12 valve trucks because they don't want to tell you to take the cat off, but the exhaust fits.

FWIW: IF you buy a stainless exhaust, make sure you get T-304. The T-409 is cheaper and is NOT as corrosion resistant. I many cases, 409 is no better than aluminized pipe..
