Twins VS Twins hmm who will win?

ok here it is... there a local guy who is a fanatic about VW tdi engine and has an 99 hatchback golf with the 1.9L TDI engine with a TDIRacing.com Twin Turbo kit pushing 190HP and 374Pds of torque from when i seen the dyno sheet. He is selling his car to buy one of the New 07 PDI Golfs with the 2.2L PDI turbo diesel engine.....but i told him i was interested only if he could proove that his car is faster then my truck... I was most likely going to buy the car either way because of how much he wants for it but yeah now it has become more of a show off challenge.....

well, even if he wins the drag race, have him hook to a sled or my 12k toy hauler for the next part of the competition. or try a 500 mile highway run and see who has cramped legs at the end!
I love my barca-lounger on wheels!

190/374 in a tdi, and you are not gonna even be close....

BUT, 190/374 does not sound correct for a 1.9L engine....

It could be correct.....but we will never know if we don't know the rpm that these peaks occur at.

he may take you off the line but once that Cummins starts spinning he better not have his window down.

i dont know what he has besides the twins because the engine bay is crammed.....the turbos had TDIracing.com etched into the casings but when i went to there site i couldnt find the specs on the twins.... also they had a chip and fuel stick combo that would put the power close to what he has without getting the twins.... the distance track is a good idea but he has been getting 35-39mpg on highway easly and i dont even come close to that.. haha

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying that 374 is impossible on a 1.9L engine, but what I am saying is that it IS a tiny 1.9L engine, and as such I am sure it turns some decent RPM.. so if it made 374 Ft*Lbs at even only 4,000 RPM, then thats 285 HP, and I would bet that little sucker winds up more than that... So thats all I was saying, the ratio of HP to Torque seems way out of whack for a small displacement, high RPM engine.

the only thing i dont like about his car is that its a 5 speed and there are plenty of options to put 6 speed trannys in them from what i did in research last night... there a company that sells a 7 speed manual in germany.... for 2200.00 dollars

Hmm......I see what you mean.......looks like peak hp would have to occur below 3000 rpm with 374 ft/lbs and I suspect that isn't too likely with a twin turbo'd 1.9 L......374 ft/lbs at 3000 rpm is still 213 hp.

im curious to understand where are yall getting at with this figures of 374ft and 213hp at 3000 rpms.....is there a basic formula yall going by?....

Yes, there are a few basic formulas....

HP = Torque (RPM/5252)

Torque = (HP x 5252) / RPM

remember that these basic formulas are in now way 100 percent correct. they are just guidelines!! And in fact they are geared more towards the predictability of a gasser. NOT our torque monster diesels!!

EG. My truck wehn stock dynoed 174 hp@2700 rpm. The formula suggests my torque should be around 338 TQ.....But I dynoed at 386 TQ from 1700-2650.

just an add on....the formula might be closer when considering torque values at that rpm the hp is occuring.....not max peak.

190 hp.....with twins on a VW? that is weak.. I have a buddy pushing close to that with nozzles and programming on an 05 passat... careful with this guy there are TDI's over 3 bills in europe all day long... http://video.thedieselgarage.com/Pla...8&t=recent&p=3
