Twins questions & problems

I have had this twin setup on my truck since this past summer and for the most part I really like the setup but I'm having some problems. The first is my own fault when I bought the turbos I did not measure the wheels or the housings to know what they both are, All I know is that the turbos are a B1 & B2 bomber setup. The bottom I know is a s400 but what size of housing no clue. It did have a external waste gate but could never get it to work as it should so I just eliminated it, I know not a good plan but I had to start somewhere b/c it was leaking all around it. Once I got I off of the truck it seemed to build boost a lot better but not as much as I think that it should. So now the truck is in the shop and I'm taking the turbos off and going to make all new piping to eliminate that problem of them not being flat to seal on the gaskets. While they are off Columbus Diesel told me measure the housings and all of the wheels and they can tell me what I got going on with sizes. While towing 30k I can not run 6th gear any more because I can't get them lit unless I'm going 65-70. So I'm thinking that I need to shrink the housings on the small charger or maybe both, or go to bigger injectors I don't know. I do pull a few brush pulls in the summer and they worked good but I can't really seem to get them lit until 2200-2500 rpm, so not so good for towing. Any ideas or advise would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

do you have any gate? you need to bypass the top to get enough energy to spool the bottom. if you dont have a gate on the top they will never work right.

I had a b1-b1 setup like yours and didn't like the way it lit on the bottom end either. It just seemed real sluggish unless you threw a bunch of fuel to them. I ran them about 3 mo and sold them.

That is what I was wondering. I knew that taking the gate out was not a good idea but I was kind of grasping at straws. There is piping that by passes but I welded it all shut but I can reverse it but what kind gate do I put in place of the one that I took out? The one that I had no one could tell me where it came from and never heard of it.

i would use a tial gate. 38mm shouldbe enough, larger would not hurtand they are v-banded also. but a 38 would be plenty.
just make sure it goes back into the hot pipe to the lower turbo. I had been messing with my gate and learned a lot. having it work properly makes all the difference. with iy shut i saw like 250 degree raise in egt's

That makes sense now when I tow I can hit 1200-1400 w/out really trying. I also think that my housing are to big b/c the truck smokes like I'm making a 1000 hp and I am no where in the ball park of that, hell even when I am going down the road with a 30 ft gooseneck empty you can see smoke trickling out the stacks. I should have them off tomorrow and get everything measured and find out what I really even have and I am going to do some research on where to buy that gate.

When my truck hits 30 psi there is still a haze of smoke coming out and I'm only running 110's, and from everything that I have read and from what everyone is telling me there should be no smoke. Another question that I had was where did you tap your piping for your boost gauges? When I bought my setup there were already tapped and want to make sure that they are in the right places.

What is the reasoning on running a boost line from the connecting pipe and at the intake horn. My piping is tapped the same way but I did not know for sure what it was for. So do you run two boost gauges or just one?

2. one total boost and one fort he bottom turbo. so when Im making 40 psi and the bottom is making 15 I know the top is making 25. its hte only way to properly setup the wastegate. sometimes Im making 30 psi and 0 on the bottom and if I put my foot in it more and jump to say 40 psi the bottom is making 10 and the top 30, and eventually settle to around 25 and 15. lots of people use the intake bolt. I just tapped the intake horn for mine.
ideally I think you want the top between 20-30 psi depending on howmuch boost you run total.

OK I got the turbos off last night and the top turbo has a three inch inducer and he exhaust is 2.5" coming out, but there is no casting marks on the turbo to tell what it is. I'm going to take the turbos apart tonight and start getting a measurement on the wheels to see what they are. Should I be ding anything else.
