Which twins?

Getting ready to make the plunge for twins (actually prolly 3 months from now). But wanna get some opinions on which twins setup i should use?

My comp is gonna be upgraded too DRAG
I want a set of sticks, but not sure how big i can go. (if i can runn 175+ I WILL)

I tow occasionally, 12,500 lbs, maybe a total of 6 times per year for 400 miles. These miles are generally flat with 1 or 2 steep hills.

Which twins should i set up for? Not sure if BD are good twins but the price is right!! and the PDR look ok, but price is a little higher.

I've been studying the BD twins for about six months and am impressed. If I ever do go that route, it will probably be the BD's. They are a well matched and throughly researched set with excellent directions and ALL parts included!
What I like best is being able to keep my 4" exhaust and keep my automatic tranny's heat exchanger..... both of which have to go with any other twins.
Best I can tell, they are excellent up to 500 hp .....just not sure how they perform above that.

Hey Rowland, looking for more??
Never ends! Is the turbo intercooler safe with most of the twin kits? I'm looking at twins as well, but for cooling since I tow 12k in the hills more often. Kinda sucks to have to use my hotrod as a REAL TRUCK!!

Just from an amateur's perspective, the BD twins appear to be VERY high quality. The attention to detail-- the engineering of the pipes (fabbed by Doug's Header's IIRC), and the overall packaging is the MOST impressive.

The only knock one can levy against BDs twins is that they are "small". Now granted, BD is conservative when they say 500hp. They could easily make 600hp, but 500 means EGTs are under control and you could sustain that almost all day (if your radiator could handle it).

It appears to me that the BD twins are not only high quality, but very good in the "real world" where spoolup and towing performance count most. I'd rather have 500hp that's clean and useful than 600hp that's smokey, hot, and laggy.

Oh, and I meant to add:

I'd like to see a shootout between the SPS66 and the BD twins. I'd suspect that the SPS66 is not as well mannered (surging, barking, etc), but will probably make HP that's close to (but not as high) as the twins, and the EGT control may be closer than one might think.

I'm a huge fan of twins and the engineering behind them. But the new crop of single chargers is REALLY making advances in the bang/buck category.

Oh believe me, I LOVE it!!
It just means that the direction of my BOMBs is slightly skewed from what it was 18 months ago. ...and there isn't much I dislike more than buying things twice because the first attempt didn't work as expected.

after towing with my truck at 340hp and barely worrying about the EGT (with Comp off per past dyno) and towing at 434hp on the flats with constant monitoring, I'd say the gain in hp is NOT worth having to drive by EGT. If I could tow heavy with 500hp and NOT have to watch the gauges, I'd be ecstatic! Of course $4k is a tough pill to swallow. Not to mention new sticks, exhaust, etc...

I found a $30.00 solution to the "if your radiator can handle it" problem. It's the Cummins 180* T-Stat.
With the Dodge 190* I could start my Coolant temps rising after one hard WOT run. Would be at 220* after 3 back to back passes.
With the 180* T-stat, I have NEVER been over 190* since.

I don't exactly understand how it can make so much difference? So far have taken the ZEN approach and not questioned my good fortune!

After looking at things, I am thinking the bd twins are the way too go. I like the fact that both turbos are s300's. My undertanding is that the s300's can be easily modified too meet my needs further down the road....is this true?

Cant coment on the BD set but I love my PDR towing twins. As RJ mentioned they mean you have to dump your autos HE however I found the under bed fan mounted cooler did a fantastic job. As far as the exhaust I ran the 4' I had so I'm not sure, just stepped down from the 5" supplied downpipe to the 4" at the Xmember. The ability to tow with twins is awsome and the spool-up and smoke control is second to none. IMHO towing with twins and 4-500hp is the only way to go but then again I love the sound of the 3B when it lights up
