Talking twin turbos

Talked to Tom at TurboRe-source today the new twin turbo set up by him and Piers Harry is up and running on a 3rd gen truck. He said Piers finished it last week. Both turbos are Garrett BB turbos. I think he said one was the gt3788r and the other was a gt42 something or other. These sizes my be wrong, but he said it rocks. Thought this may be of interest to Hohn. By the way seen a post over on CompD where a guy dynoed a 06 cummins, with a custom gt3788r and made 601hp and 1187ftq, EGTS where at 1450*.

they said they where going to build a set for towing and a set for going. All with Garrett BB turbos. I just finished installing a custom stage 3 gt3788r from Turbo Re-source. I am slow going as I'am recovering from a double spine fusion. Stixs are not in yet but will be. Have rv275 in now,Smarty and Quad xzilliraider. Just installing the turbo feels like I picked up about 75 hp, this thing spools hard. Can't wait for the 150's.

What kind of wastegates is it running? Take some pictures for us to drool on. I'm wondering they done to the wastegate. What pressure is it set for? I almost have a set of BTH-3B/GT3788-2R put together. I bet that the GT turbo on top of a S400 sized would be the hot ticket. The garrett is a pretty easy turbo to twin. Cool stuff buddy.

Piers set the twins to run on a newer truck? Has he ran it on a older trucks yet? I have to phone the boys and see what's the scoop. Knowing Piers there would be something massaged and tweaked over a stock turbo running twins. I just rode in new the ford twin set-up. I like the idea of the variable guidevane primary turbo, at least thats what I think that lever was. It spool quick, but it didn't pull as hard as my truck. Man talk about rads in the front of the truck. Make my truck look like a simple toy.

The first set of these BB twins from Piers is the "towing" version and is on a 2nd gen. Without going into details let's just say they performed better than expected.

The second set of these BB twins from Piers is the "going" version and is "coming" to me in another week... stay tuned for big stuff!!

I'd really like to see more of these Garrett sets in action.

I've been trying to find more info on these, as I suspected early on that they could work very well. So it's somewhat satisfying to finally see them getting out there AND hear favorable reports.

Now, if only we can get more info on the T-netics units!

To be fair, these are not off the shelf twins. Both primary and secondary are custom jobs to overcome certain design flaws of the Garretts. For info, the primary will be a custom GT42 flowing 110-115 lbs/min of air between pressure ratios of 2.25 to 3.5. Spool time said to be twice as fast (under identical fueling circumstances) than BHT3B.

How's that for a tease?

Take some pics and lets see what you got. You have to enough exhaust into what ever primary to expecially on the large frame turbo to get it to lite properely. There as been tons of graphs showing the difference between ball bearing and journal bearing style. Did Piers mix and match the turbine housings for both turbos? Being twice as fast as a BTH3B, I doubt it but I can see 1/3 faster. You only really gonna have to push the primary to around 25 to 30 psi, so a compressor map that has a wide map for more air flow is the ticket. The best thing about the 3B is price, $600 vs $2400. My set-up works pretty sweet. Mine I just welded up in my garage.
The biggest factor in spool-ups timing for twins is your secondary turbo comfiguration.
