Cool Turbo Whine

Heres a question for everyone: Im a pilot and I drool at the sound of a jet turbine engine. Whats the most reasonable and easiest way to make the turbocharger whine in a CTD louder?

first what year is your truck but regaurdless it is in the turbo rihgt infront held in by a snap ring. you'll need to remove the intake from the turbo and get 2 standard srewdrivers and pop out the snap ring the sliencer ring should fall out if not tap it and it will then just put the snap ring back in....if still under warenty keep the sliencer ring for future turbo/engine work just for a percaution

yeah i made a custom air intake for the blazer because it would only get 14mpg when i bought it, the custom one gave it 2 more mpg, but it also had a bad tranny so that didnt help much...im impressed that the truck gets better mileage than the blazer! I drove a 94 CTD flatbed for my work a few years ago and have been in love with them since!

Try this link. It shows what it looks like and where it's at. Just scroll down to "silencer ring".

removing the silencer ring and putting on an a/m open air filter like the bhaf or afe will make the turbo very very noticable

Mine is a 3rd gen...........but I just added an AFE Stage 2 air intake. Let me tell you..........IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE A JET AIRPLANE ABOUT TO TAKE OFF!

I mean I can hear my turbo spooling now just backing out of my driveway it is so loud. I may have to put my silencer ring back in, but for now I am enjoying the new sound from my truck.

I knew it was going to be louder than the stock air box........I am just surprized by how much.

After running heavy equipment for forty years it baffles me why anyone would want to make a high pitched noise louder.
Do you guys want to ruin your hearing or is there something else I'm missing here?

The best combination is I think IMHO...
  • Straight Pipe Exhaust
  • BHAF /AFe
  • Silencer Ring Removed
It really does sound great. At any speed. Just even a light rev will make the turbo sing! My truck is starting to get the nickname of "Whistler"

Stock Sucks... BOMB (Better Off Modified Baby) it!
