Turbo Time
I have done a lot of research on old forums and on the web I am looking to get rid of the HY stock turbo on my 2001 that I tow with daily and usually grossing #20,000 + or - and like these 3 options BD super b $1200 kit , HTB2 62/12 $1450 kit, Aurora 3000 $1150 + down pipe or is there something else out there to meet my needs "oh yeah and bigger sticks may follow you know how that bug bites" What can I get along with a stock head gasket? I already have a DG triple disk and that gave me a little dead spot off the line with the lower stall I am sure the bigger turbo will hurt a little although I tow daily I still like to play is it impossible to get the best of both worlds? I thought of a used hx35 but seems like by the time I get it shipped in and go through it I might as well go new I am addicted to reading on this site and forums and value the opinions of the ones that have been there and done that.

I personally have found that the best combo for me for pulling was the hy turbo with a J-hook and about 65 more HP worth of fuel. Anything else got too hot and I couldn't pull hills without getting too hot. The HY while not a volume monster spools fast and builds more boost (up to a certain point) easier. For me this equated to the lowest temps while pulling that I have experienced.

I think everyone who has a super B would recommend it to you. They are great for towing and daily driving. Spool quick and really keep your EGT's down. Nice thing about the kit is it comes with the downpipe.

Depends on your boost and timing. The more of each, the greater the risk of popping it. 16 degrees with a decent amount of boost (50ish) is usually the upper limit. You'd probably want to limit that turbo to 45psi or so.

I see on ebay there is a BD and one sold by airwerks the airwerks looks a little different and cheaper and have read the waste gate gets in the way and cant install it? so far I guess the s300g wins as no one chimmed in on the HTB2 or the Aurora although I found the aurora intersting it does not seem popular

The wastegate can be installed with the S300G on 2nd gen trucks but takes some work. Mine is all put together and functioning properly. To install the intercooler piping to the comp. outlet you will have to remove and dent your oil return line so that the clamp will go back on. No two ways around it unless you fab a new return line. As far as installing the wastegate, do it after you have installed the oil return line. It will make it easier. When I did mine, I had some trouble getting both bolts back in the return line flange so I had to get a longer bolt that would start sooner as it has a taper on the end, not sure what to call that kind of bolt. It pretty much just acted as a guide before the threads started. The wastegate on the S300g is not the same as the Super B in that it is not adjustable. It can be made to be so, as I did, just cut the actuator arm and run a die over the rod on the diaphram side. Then I ran the corresponding tap through a rod end and ceated my own adjustable wastegate. Does the same thing that the BD unit does. Anyhow, I can post pics if anyone is curious. Thanks and good luck.
