Question Turbo and spool time...

I would like to upgrade my turbo in a near future. I don't want to run over 30 psi, but i want to reduce the lag. The turbo take forever to spool..

Anyone knows a turbo that can meet my goal?

Cheers,
Marc/

use an HY35 off of a later 24v automatic truck, and adjust your AFC setting on your pump to bring in the fuel quicker. I'm surprised you thinkt he stocker takes for ever to spool...

Mustnt have driven a single B1 or an HX40 powered truck.

I didnt see that you have modded your truck that would help you too turning up your fuel definately would help but also check your hoses you might be dumping pressure somewhere.

Why stop at 30psi, i ran 42 PSI on stock head gasket and put 337,000 towing miles on the motor after it had 150,000 already on it so if your worried about hurting the motor with high pressure dont. That same motor is still towing around the country and has 545k on it now and still no problems

look to a Hybrid and 12cm exhaust housing that ought to spool quick and push alot of air then set the wastegate at 30 psi the HY35 is a good suggestion too.

Are you towing at all?

Yes, the stock turbo on your truck is about as good as your gonna get for spoool up, and can easily handle 30lbs of boost. I wouldnt do anything to change it except add more fuel to help it spool better/quicker. You ought to see some of the rigs with the big turbos coming of the line at the truck pulls with an automatic. It takes them FOREVER to spool depending on which turbo they have.

What kinda hybrid you are talking about? For ex: HX35 with a 12cm turbine? Perhaps i worked too much with VNT turbo that spool in a blink of an eye.. But def, i want it to spool faster..

Im not towing with this truck, it's my toy..

If it's your toy, then turn up the pump, and let more fuel do the spooling.

Also, if you use an HY35 that will spool in the blink of an eye, heat can become an issue with only a little more fuel. The HX35 is more "forgiving" as far as EGT's are concerned.

bd diesel has a super b turbo that uses a small turbine wheel with extended fin tips their own technology quick spool up like a hy35 and air volume exceeding hx40 supports up to 450hp or you could take forrest advice with the hy35 but don't ever do more than a 70 hp gain because small 9 cm housing will cause you problems with egt's I sell the super b and I think I have a used hy 35 on the shelf 70k if I remember

What does removing the AFC spring do? I know it must be good if your doing it but how about giving me some insite on that. You know that I'm trying to soak up as much info as I can without getting a dizzy Just trying to learn more.

Cris,

I need to update my sig... I actually replaced the spring and tightened it up a little...

before I had the housing and wheel full forward...

then I put the stacks on, and I removed the spring so I could make more smoke and show off a little more...

it put out a LOT of smoke w/ the flat plate and no spring!! LOL!

but, when you'd floor it trying to accelerate, it was just too much... you could hear the motor bogging, and acceleration was slower. Yes, I could have modulated the throttle a little more, but I wanted to be able to mat it and go.

it still puts out lots of smoke, but it's nicer to drive a few clicks tighter on the AFC.
