Yeah, I was expecting more turbo whistle when I put in my BHAF. It's no louder than the stock box.
Too be honest, I'm not that impressed with the BHAF. It kind of looks like a hack job to me. I'm contemplating putting the air box back in.

hynsinsone - step away from the CTD before you hurt yourself.
Forrest - I should have been more clear. There's no doubt it is of quality, just the installation is hack. Maybe it's just my installation. How much HP will the stock box effectively flow air for?

Depends if you modify the box or leave it totally stock. I drilled holes in the bottom of mine when I had it and cut out part of the side for more air, and when I put my AEM intake on I didn't notice any difference except for noise.
The stock box has the potential to flow fairly decent with an upgraded filter ( I had a K&N ) but you have to modify it a little bit.

I would have assumed that the stocker would have enough flow the way it is. That's a pretty big hole in the inner fender well that the stocker uses to get it's air from.

Well it does flow pretty decent, but if you open it up a bit it flows a LOT better. I had mine stock w/ the K&N and the cut the holes and I could tell a difference. Not massive mind you, but I could definetely tell.

I took a hole saw ( can't remember what size ) and drilled a few holes in the bottom of the box, and then took a dremmel and cut out part of the sides. You don't wanna cut to much outta the sides cuz then the box gets really flimsy and weak, but cut enough so it lets a decent amount of air in.

Back to my question.... will the hole in the cowl make a noticable difference in whistle with a BHAF?
#29
probably not much...
I know everyone hates K&N's, but my old 1st gen had a K&N installed at about 100k miles... it's got 390k on it now and still going strong.
don't get me wrong, I've got an AFE on my current rig, but my point is, the thin gauze or foam style filters are going to make a LOT more noise than a BHAF (so much so that unless you're planning on twins in the next few months, I'd spring for a new filter, you'll LOVE IT!)
