Went on ATS site and couldn't find the manifold to fit that garett turbo. Anyone have a link.

With that turbo you still have some room to grow. Its abit more money than the S300, but its bigger air flow and a ball bearing turbo that will out spool the S300 of a similar size. 1600 deg's its too bad, as long its brief and you limit it too several seconds. The holset 35 turbine/40 compressor is a cheap upgrade too. You could find one new for around the $600 mark. I picked up a two brand new HX-40 for $300, both have the liquid cooled bearing housing. Its isn't not as whizzy as the S300 but its more than grand cheaper. If you have a loose (stock) converter, you have a hard time seeing the difference. You might want to save some $$$ for a decent transmission.

Smokem-- it's the last listing here. Look for P/N M59-24-WF.

Mike, talking to Chris about the 4088r on his 12V, he said that spoolup wasn't that great for a street truck. It will light very fast once you're into the boost range, but the threshold is kinda high-- not very friendly to a 12V auto trans setup, imo.

I also talked to Tom at Turboresource (*THE* place to buy a BB Garrett, imo), and he confirmed Chris' statement to me that the 4088r wouldn't be a very street-friendly turbo.

NO doubt for twins that the 4088r would rule, but the ideal top charger for twins is very different than as a single because we're trying to accomplish two different things (or not, depending on how you setup your twins).

I agree that the T4 flange opens up a lot more options. The T3 divided flange is designed for smaller engines like import racers. I think it was selected for the CTD because they wanted early spoolup in a package designed for hp in the low 200s (in case of VP trucks). The T3 flange flows plenty for that. But IMO, it's not ideal for the tremendous amount of airflow that we are pushing when you're talking about 500-600hp! How mch of a penalty is really hard to say, because the T3 flange is still less restrictive than the turbine coming after it...

The T4 flange also has a lot more size options. Anything from as small as a Turbonetics T58 (about the same as a PDR35 in flow) all the way up to a GT4508 (about the same as an S480!) will bolt directly to that T4 divided manifold. That's a HUGE range!

Pretty much all the Turbonetics chargers of interest to us are T4 flange, and all their "TorqueMaster" kits using a T58 or HP66 are T4 flanged, and include an adapter in their installation kit to accomodate the factory T3 manifold.

Smokemup-- the Garrett that I think you should consider is that GT3788r packaged for our trucks. Unfortunately, it has yet to make more than 500hp as far as I know. But it WILL make almost that much (upper 490s) while spooling almost instantly, and it's tough as nails. The info on from the Garret site is here. You can ignore their hopelessly optimistic HP claims.

The Garretts have a flaw in the installation kits that is not too tough to remedy. But if you buy your Garrett from Tom at www.turboresource.com, you can get your Garrett set up properly for an HX40 downpipe right out of the box, thus fixing Garrett's problematic exhaust adapter and dropping lots of EGT (over 200º).

Best of all, the Garret turbo from them is <$2K, modified and ready to go. You'll have spoolup like stock, about 500hp of capability, and a modern BB charger that's tough AND durable (liquid cooling).

If you ever do decide on twin turbos later, that Garrett will still be very good as a top charger-- big enough to where you won't outgrow it, small enough to where it still spools well to get your big turbo rolling.

Disclaimer:
*I have no firsthand experience with any Garrett turbos, but I've been researching this crap for longer than I care to admit**

If I can swing the $$, the Garrett from TurboResource is IMO the best all-around single on the market for a street-oriented truck and it's what I will be purchasing for my CTD.

I was looking at that site and noticed that it say for 24 valve with round openings. Is it gonna work with my 12 valve?

So what did you buy? If you where closer to me, I would let you try one of my HX-40's that I got in my garage. Its not the whizest of turbo's but man are they cheap. I bought two new coolant bearing housing turbo's for $600. I haven't tried one in a twin app yet, but soon. I've seen these trucks running these turbo put 400 to 450 rwhp at dyno days. If you go the 3782r, go with the stage 3. I have a stage 2 on my truck. Its almost the same size impeller/turbine size as the HX-40. The stage 3 has a higher PR map and slightly more flow than the stage 2. I still think its a waste in twins running such a high PR ratio turbo for your secondary in a twins application. You also have to hog out the wastegate housing and massage the flow passage to get it to work right in twins. The area behind the turbine is smaller than my HX-40, so egt's might be higher. Garrett sells it with a 2.75 in down pipe. You will have to cut it off and put on a 4in down pipe. If you don't, it will push up your egt's. They kinda missed the boat on a few items. Other than that its a great turbo.

What do you guys think about using a larger turbine housing on the secondary turbo vs tighter one. Obviously your intial spool-up will slow, but your primary might lite better and making more mid and top end power. Lower egt's. I'm thinking about trying two different HX-40's (six blade and a eight blade impeller) and two different turbine housings. What do you guys think, this is just dyno day stuff/drag racing or there any value in this. I have five HX-40, everyone is slightly different. Two have coolant jackets bearing housing off a gen set T04 8.3L cummins. I just changed the turbine housing off my PDR Hx-40, I have something pretty cool.. I also have 14cm turbine housing and a 16cm turbine housing for the T03.

Haven't purchased anything thing yet. Still reading up, gathering thoughts and info. Honestly i'm just lazy and didn't feel like spending all of my income tax return yet. I was making sure that my YFZ450 gets running again before I spend anymore money. But look at this http://www.turbochargers.com/store/p...roducts_id=646 alot of you guys tried to talk me into twins and if this kit comes complete (except for a downpipe) I might try it out. Got any thoughts on this??????????????????????

Sorry to ruin your night, that is an upgrade kit. You need to already be running an S300, add a grand to that kit and you have a full set, not a bad price for twins.

Or add an airflow super b knock off for 850 and then you have a full set.

FWIW, the T58 version of the turbonetics turbo is a T3 flange. The HP66 is a T4.

We are currently running a 66/71/13ss on a ford/12V swap and man does that thing surge!!!

Which turbo did TDR run? There are three difference sizes. Mines the stage 2. Its bigger than the 35X turbo and its has a slightly bigger impeller/turbine than my PDR HX-40. The truck must have been a 3rd gen truck? They rate the turbo at 350 to 550 hp area. I'll be trying mine out soon. I'm just waiting on the coolant hoses as the banjo kit provide in the box wont work in twins application. The garrett down pipe off the turbine is quite restrictive and you have to modify it as mine was 3in outlet. Its been a pretty easy build as I can reuse my PDR 4in air tube. The hot downtube wasn't too bad either. I've been thinking about getting the down pipe and turbine housing jet ceramic heat coated to keep in the hot exhaust and make a nice looking downpipe.

Mike they ran the stage3 gt3788r, they put a HX40 exhaust housing on it, cools it down alot. Lets it make more power. And yes it was a 3rd gen.

How did they get the HX-40 housing on the garrett? Anybody have pictures? Are you talking about the turbine housing?
