Turbo Charger Choices!! Help Me pick the Right one!!!
I think i'm getting ready to get a bigger turbo for the truck. 98 12v, Now i am a newbe and need some help. I have not done any motor work in a long time on truck, I cant even remember what size cam plate and injectors are in it!!! I know!! But here are list of mods.
Timming
Cam plate
Injectors
4GSK
Delv valves
Head Studs
EEP Valves and springs
The problem is i have low gearing, 4.56's and 35in tires. With a 5sp. So it seems like i'm always running a high RPM, like above 1800. It revs so fast, feels like i cant shift fast enough. And after that 2000-2400 RPM, truck feels like it has no acutall power! So is there a charger out there that will give me more at those higher RPM's??
Give me some options on some of the differnt turbos out there. I was looking at High Tech turbos. What Series should i look at?? What are advan and disadvan about them? Thanks-Chris

dont know if this helps but above 2k my truck doesnt "seem" to have any power either, it pulls hard own low but above 2k the torque curve kinda gets replaced with a horsepower curve

any of the S300's will work great but you have to match compressor and turbine size to what you want out of it
least thats how i would do it
then make the fuel match and you are done
beauty of the p-pump is that it is so adjustable
sliding the plate back and forth makes a huge difference
so does turning the starwheel
what do you do with your truck?
don
ps - the reason it feels like it has not power is probably because the stock turbo is choking the thing
*but it could also be running outta fuel
pps - htt is great, so is I.I., but bang for your buck no one compares to bd. they sell theirs as a complete kit (for the same price) (dp included)

yeah, a hx40 would work really good with some 6 x 018's and a zero plate pushed all the way forwards
not
why not wait until he responds as to what the application is before telling him what turbo specifications are required?

I agree with j lent. a 62 or 64/14 will give you good spool up and drive you better at those higher rpm's. Although i dont have one yet, Im a big fan of industrial injection.

Could talk to the guys at Engineered Diesel. They will make whatever kind of schwitzer based turbo you like, and are usually cheaper than HTT or II. Theres more options than just 62,64,64 compressors and 65, 71 and 74 turbines.

The truck is mainly a toy. I just want it to run good. I may pull a trailer evey once in a great while, But i have a dually to do most my pulling. I talk to my diesel guy, he has been getting a guy to make all of his turbo's for him, and seems to be having real good luck!! Better than some of the "off the self" ones. I just want to see from you guys if maybe this was a no brainer, meaning everyone kinda has the same thoughts on it. Oh and he was asking me about fuel as well. Its getting ALOT, i think. When held at 2k then spash the throttle, it smokes very heavly up past 3k easy. I mean like stop traffic smoke!! Thats why im thinking bigger charger my help get some hp's out of higher RPM's. Oh he also said, check innner cooler, i may need bigger, or mine could be plugged, or boots could be bad. It has good boost, but my EGT's are crazy, thats why he is woundering about it. Like 1600* plus in a matter of seconds!! I know i have alot of choices out there, but his guy seems to be priced good as well $1200-$1400 range. -Chris

I suggest a garrett 4088R or a 4094R. You'll have lots of room to grow into and still have fast spool-ups. A 3788R might be abit hot on a few hard wot pulls. Set your blow-off valve for around 60 to 70psi of boost and hang on.
