turbo air guides?
Hey I just clicked on the link for black cloud diesel and I was reading about turbo air guides, wondering if they really work or if that is something like that tornado thing? It sounds good in philosophy (its supposed to make the turbo spool faster and increase mileage/power), anybody know if it really works?
I have a 2002 2500, stock as you can get but looking to upgrade.

Its supposed to quieten turbo noise. How about instead of that remove the silencer ring for more noise instead. Take off the intake hose from the turbo and use a flathead screwdriver to pry the ring out on the turbo inlet. It'll

I ordered one because the turbo was driving me nuts. I think it does a LITTLE performance wise, and keeps the whine of the turbo to a dull roar, my personal opinion

Contact DTR member rjohnson. He's got a spreadsheet on his tests with the TAG. He noticed lower egt's and less noise. Can't remember what else. His spreadsheets show some decent results.

One thing I'm puzzled by, when I ran the tag I had a surge on hard acceleration. In order to use the tag in the stock intake tube you have to remove the plastic fins in the tube. If I remember correctly, that bend is slightly more than 90*. I'm thinking the air is stalling slightly, causing the surge, hence the reason for the fins in the stock tube. I purchased an AFE torque tube to smooth out the bends and because it is supposed to allow you to run the tag, it won't. I'm working on modifying the AFE to make it work with the tag. I think that will eliminate the surge.

I've been running the TAG 1 for years and am satisfied with its performance. The 2nd generation trucks didn't have turning vanes in the inlet duct between the air cleaner and turbocharger, and I was experiencing turbo compressor instability when towing up grades in 6th gear around 2200-2300 RPM at or near WOT. In addition, with the BHAF, the constant turbo whistle and whine were drawing complaints from the wife on long trips towing the 5th wheel. The TAG took care of both issues. If you're thinking it's voodoo science, do a Google search on "honeycomb flow straightener" to see where the technology comes from.
If you're looking for mega-horsepower gains, your money is better spent elsewhere. If you understand what the TAG can do and use it to target specific issues, it's a worthwhile addition.

When you pull the intake hose off the front of the turbo, where exactly is it and do you just pry something out?
Thanks!

Nothing to be concerned about. Just pull the hose off the turbo and look inside and there's a ring. Carefully pry it out. Its that easy.
