Which turbo at 400-425 hp?

Which turbo do you guys use/recommend in this range? I am going to a tst3 this week and taking off the ez and are pretty sure I will need more air. Reliability and spool up are important to me. I here a lot about B-1 and Piers HX-40 but get a little confused about proper housing sizes. I dont tow often and then only 5-6k, the truck is more for play. Thanks in advance, Tim

In the HP range you are going after the Piers Super HX-40 with the 16CM2 housing is the turbo to go with. You are just past where a Hybred HX-35 will go.+

Now the big question is can you stop at only 425 HP????? ;D

Drawson's right on the money.

The PDR 40/16 with the PM3 and your injectors will make for a sweet, quick spooling setup. You won't be disappointed

John

Yup ... correct .... 400 is pushing the limit for the HX35 be it hybrid or not and the H1C ... I'm making just over 400 with an H1C w/ 16cm3 non-wg housing .... heading off to the 500+ arena and going to the HX40 piersified of course ....

Re:Which turbo at 400-425 hp?

Thanks for all the quick responses. Does the PDR 40/16 leave room to grow. I would like to think that 425hp will be enough, but should probably know better. I thought 300 would be enough at first. Power is very addicting in these trucks. Thanks again Tim

As said before, Piers HX40/16cm cannot be beat!!
Dont get rid of that Edge EZ, Piggyback it!! with the TST PM3
you'll need it for the timing (more power).

I would guess to say 500rwhp is the ceiling area for the Super 40.

--Justin

Justin, what kind of power do you get stacking the ez with PM3? Is it especially hard on the head gasket? Im really leaning towards the PDR Hx-40 but I am gonna try it with my stock hx35 and see what temps and smoke are like first. Tim

Well,
In adding the Edge EZ to the stock Power Max 3 you will have the features of an Edge Comp.
This will provide you with advanced timing and fueling.
The Power Max 3 only provides fueling, the Edge product manipulates fuel delivery timing via fuel pump control module (this FPCM monitors position of the fuel pump)

Your headgasket will be fine.
Temps will be getting high with DD3's, fueling box and stock turbo.

I would advise the PIERS Hx40/16 in your future though,
this turbo will make you faster and keep your temps in the somewhat safe zone.

--Justin
Need to think about the B-1 from Kurt Yardley also - especially if you plan to "grow" anymore. It can flow more air, provide more boost, and has a heavier shaft.

Re:Which turbo at 400-425 hp?

the piers HX-40 I have has done really well for me...all the way through 489 rwHP. But I got twins coming in a couple weeks(and i don't mean kids ;D) So the -40 will just be step one of the two...a -55 will be step two, which I have already bought...

But anyways...the -40 should do you really good...I have loved mine.

Re:Which turbo at 400-425 hp?

If you plane to saty at 425 for a long time, then I would go HX40 w/16cm. If you forsee going bigger in hp anytime soon I would go with the KwikSpool B1 or even the regualr B1. On my truck the KS B1 + BD IV's (box off) was wonderful drivabilty, by 1500rpm I was over 5psi in boost. However I have a different cam as well so it won't react the same in yours. The HX40 should work nice for what you are wanting to do and it includes the downpipe to bolt up right up.

Whats your gear ratio and tire size?

A general question.......everyone says the HX40 is on sale for $200 off? so the $1095 is not the regular price? (I was thinknig it was).
