That's always a good idea. Wrapping AFTER the thermal barrier coating is the best of all worlds

Never wrap low grade stainless, like 409. Can cause it to get brittle and crack.

I do not have any first hand experience with coating 409 stainless, but I would think that it would be better than a header wrap.
