Re:TST CLUTCHES
I'd like to ask the same question. My clutch questions regarding the CenterForce vs South Bends were well answered, and you all pretty well sold me on the SB, but since then a friend in Alabama has recommended the TST very highly, since he's just installed one. (??) Big attraction is the price.............$250.00 for the pressure plate; $250.00 for the friction plate; and supposed to hold 1,000 lbs of torque. Then it mentions that the pressure plate is the same as stock. Hmmmm ??? Opinions ?? Lar.

Re:TST CLUTCHES
I had the pleasure last week to drive a friend's truck with a CenterForce (TST) clutch in it. The clutch has a smooth ingaugement and seems to hold very well, the only down side that I could notice was the pedal pressure. His was only the 800ftlbs model but the pedal was a lot stiffer than my South Bend Fe. He bought it because the cheaper price and was happy with it till he drove my truck with the South Bend.

My 2 pennies.

DB

Re:TST CLUTCHES
I checked into the TST clutches for quite a while before deciding to try one.

I talked with TDR members Rob Thomas and Gizmoo 007 who both had the TST clutch in their trucks, and when I say TST I mean the Sach's not the centercrap.

Both men were running right at 450HP in their trucks, 1 5spd 1 6spd. They both said that it held the HP extremely well and they hadn't experienced any problems with it. It's a real grabby clutch from what TST's site says, its either in or out. Rob testified to this because he tried the clutch sled pulling and it wouldn't slip. Rob however moved on to a EE Dual Disk because he's getting into the sled pulling thing, and Gizmoo had leg problems that forced him to convert to an Auto. Both said they would buy this clutch again if (Rob) they weren't sled pulling, or were able (Gizmoo).

For the price you can't beat the a clutch that will hold 1,000ft/lbs of power. I don't know how the customer service is on this (surely not to many failures with 1K Ft/Lbs rating), but if I could have saved $800 I would have bought a SBC Con OFE, but I couldn't and I planned on going with a #10 plate and injectors so I had to have something that will hold the power.

I plan on doing a full eval on mine after I get it installed. YES I said after I have it installed. Sadly it and my #10 plate are sitting in the basement waiting to go in! :'( The 15th can't get here soon enough! ;D

Re:TST CLUTCHES
Maybe a type-o Mark, but the TST(1000#) clutch DID slip when sled-pulling, that was the problem (I know it wasn't a sled-pulling clutch, just needed an excuse to get the Mitchells). I tow'd with the TST and also drag-raced it, no problems (till the sled-pullin bit), release was nice, as was drivability. I had the STOCK pressure plate in mine, therefore pedal pressure was STOCK, and yes, it held 450+/- hp. Great clutch for the $250 I spent on it, I would reccomend it as an alternative, FWIW.

Later, Rob

Re:TST CLUTCHES
If I buy just the clutch plate will it work with the centerforce pressure plate I have?
I need some time to save up for my pulling clutch but still need a clutch to pull my horsetrailer and other things with.
The centerforce is fried and can only hold the truck without extra weight.
DM01

I don't see why not, although the condition of your PP may effect the new disk, my PP only had 35,000 miles on it when I switched disks, and was only slipped once or twice (the day I ordered the new TST disk). That was my thinkin to dodgeman, I wanted a pulling clutch, didn't have the cash on hand, so in the meantime the TST worked nicely. Give Mark Chapple (from TST) a call and tell him the senerio, he'll give you the answers you need.

Later, Rob

Re:TST CLUTCHES
I would not recommend using the TST disc with the centerforce pressure plate. Centerforce modifies the pressure plate to except their disc which is thicker then the OEM disc. If you go with the TST disc, ask Mark if he can make it thicker for you, that is if you want to stay with the CF pp. It will work fine with your old pressure plate if you still have it.

Re:TST CLUTCHES
I still have my stock PP but I thought the CF PP would be stronger than the stock one.
The funny thing is I had a chance to buy the TST clutch and did not. :'( This centerforce does not hold 800ftlbs of tq like they said it would. NO I have not sled pulled it.
DM01
