TST Boost Elbow question

Ok, got my TST boost elbow today. This is an adjustable one with the set screw in the end. Going to use it with my VanAaken box.

I told them to set it up for max boost for the VanAaken box.

I got it today and it looks like the set screw is all the way in , so you can't get anything to go in one side and out the other.

Is this correct? Or does it need to be opened up?

That's max boost alright... Your waste gate sees ZERO pressure, therefore it never opens.

You should adjust it yourself after the install. Start with it cranked all the way in. Jump on the skinny peddle and keep a close watch on your boost and EGT's. Back the screw out a little and watch the gauges again, boost and EGT's should drop together. Continue backing out the screw until the boost drops and EGT's rise. From there, send the screw back in just a little and you will be tuned properly. I'm assuming you have an HX35 so about 35psi should be the max. Ahh, just realized that you don't have gauges yet. You need them to adjust the screw properly. Best to wait until you have them.

TST has 2 different elbows.
One is set to restrict a certain psi X and the other elbow x amount of boost.

Both are non adjustable. If you back the screw out you risk losing the little thing, and then you will be blowing boost into the atmosphere.

Well, I guess you could tighten one up, just not loosen it once its been tightened up.

PourinDiesel, I am sorry but I have to disagree with that, the boost elbow that I recieved from TST did adjust the boost, the set screw was a tight fit, so you could set it where you wanted to and it would stay there, and depending on where you set it it did effect boost. That was before I remove all of that stuff and went with the non-wastegated 15cm housing.

I am not saying it isnt possible.
I am just stating the way it is designed.

That info I posted was straight from the TST technical department.

The elbow that came with my PM3 Comp has the set screw turned all the way in. The directions say DO NOT adjust the screw. I didn't mess with it, and can get my boost gauge needle to just touch the 32psi mark on my stock HX35
If it aint broke, don't fix it !

Question about how these boost elbows work. I understand that the elbow just restricts pressure going to the wastegate so it doesn't open until the boost goes higher but my question is let's say you have the elbow set for 30psi does that mean the wastegate won't open until the elbow allows enough pressure to get through? Now once the wastegate opens is it going to maintain the 30psi or is it going to drop everything down to 20psi which is what it's set for from the factory? I bought one off of ebay and installed it, with just a puck it would hit about 25psi before the wastegate opened but once it opened the boost would fall to 20. I was unsatisfied with that so I pulled the wastegate out and installed an 1/8" NPT plug in the turbo hole and then blocked off the wastegate tube and now I can hit 30psi and it will maintain 30psi not drop back until I let off the throttle. Is it normal for the wastegate to drop everything back down to 20 after it opens up?

It will maintain the boost if you have the fuel to push the turbo.
Once you go anything above an EZ I would advise that you run the elbow again.
The wastegate opening will actually add power after a certain point.

What fuel mods do you have?

I don't have any fuel mods yet just the puck and the intake. I figured that once I add any more I would have to put the elbow back in.

Mine will hold 30-31psi until I let of the throttle.

So it looks like my problem is not enough fuel. I guess I'll just have to do something about that.
